It really is a nice theory. The only defect I think it has is probably common to all philosophical theories. It's wrong. - Saul Kripke

RSF was supported by the UAE, Wagner (for a while), and Israel. Genuinely the axis of evil.
There is a scene in Red Dawn (Reagan era slop film but still kinda fun) where when the Communists invade America they're able to quash resistance by using registration records to confiscate the guns, and that kind of insane fantasy is why there is opposition to something this banal.
gonna reiterate a hobbyhorse of mine: 'let the ATF keep electronic records' is a good fight to pick on guns. it doesn't impact normie gun owners at all, it's an insane bit of GOP mandated dysfunction in government, and it's being "tough on crime" in a way that actually matters
There is a non zero chance Big Yud will appear in South Park btw.
Virtue Ethics is the only type of ethics humans are smart enough to implement.
He loves Heinlein which is also pretty funny. Though, he seems more attracted to the libertarian stuff (SIASL) than the right wing militarism (Starship Troopers).
Funny how “the mindkiller” comes from Dune. A series which is essentially a political drama.
I'm thinking Dan Quayle.
Who would be the funniest American political figure to make a Hamilton parody musical about?
are we allowed to talk about how Hamilton is good again yet or is that still, like, off limits
Like I don't think we should condemn college students who donate ten percent of their (often meager) income to bednets because Elon said he aligns with them.
Despite my thinking that Rationalism had little influence on Elon, I agree that the rat-o-sphere generally lacks political instincts, and that's partially Eliezer's fault for telling them that politics was for dumb people. However, there are also a lot of great people in the EA community.
He's doing this while the world is letting Rwanda 2.0 happen in Sudan.
TLDR James Burnham is far more responsible for landing us where we are now than Yud.
Plus the whole thing about USAID being a deep state that slanders Trump, is traditional reactionary conspiracism which has been seen in the conservative movement since the John Birch Society. This is a much more believable ideological heritage story to explain DOGE than Rationalism.
Like, are people just blind to the fact that hatred of "big government" and bureaucracy has been a cornerstone of populist conservativism since Goldwater?
I'm doubtful that EA and Rationalism were what inspired DOGE and the killing of USAID. See:

IDK why people blame Rationalism for Elon killing Pepfar/USAID. He's definitely flirted with rationalist ideas before, but the DOGE thing undoubtably grew more out of American Conservative ideology than anything Rationalism was taking about.

What ethicist are you referring to?
Obviously it’s still bad, and he was also an antisemite, but I found the meme funny.
Pretty par for the course for pre WWII progressives unfortunately
Looks like racial polarization isn’t totally dead despite the fuss.
Now we need one with Wittgenstein and Kripkensteinism vs Quietism to complete the trilogy.
