I applaud DC's move to join the lawsuit to stop the withholding of SNAP benefits during the shutdown.
 USDA has billions in contingency funds to spend on food assistance. A moral society does not let children go hungry because Congress can't get along.

141,000 DC residents rely on SNAP to afford their meals — including 47,000 children and 24,000 seniors.

The Trump Admin's reinstallation of the statue of Confederate Albert Pike is an affront to DC residents.

Pike took up arms against the US, misappropriated funds, and was captured by his own troops. He has no claim to be memorialized in the nation's capital.

Fun fact: Most members of Congress and their staff get their health insurance via DC Health Link.

If the health tax credits aren’t extended, their health insurance costs will go up, like millions of other people around the country.

An extension is in everyone’s best interest.

The GOP's keeping the gov't closed because they won’t vote for a CR that extends tax credits which make healthcare affordable. Without an extension, premiums will skyrocket to a level many simply can’t afford to pay.

I won’t support a CR that will lead to millions losing healthcare.

As one of the largest advertisers in the US, the federal government must ensure fair access for small disadvantaged businesses and those owned by minorities and women.

I introduced a bill to require agencies to report the amount they spend on these contracts in their annual budget justifications.

My daughter Katherine has Down syndrome, so President Trump's layoff of employees dedicated to supporting students with disabilities and their families is personal.

Pres. Trump signed a law entitling fed workers to backpay after shutdowns, yet his admin removed critical guidance explicitly stating that these employees will be paid when the shutdown ends.

I joined a letter led by Sen. Kaine asking OMB to affirm that furloughed employees will receive backpay.

GAO has authority to conduct investigations and audits of federal agencies, but its authorizing statute incorrectly defines DC as a federal agency.

DC already has a local auditor and IG, so GAO's authority over DC is redundant and offensive. I introduced a bill to repeal it.

DC shouldn't be penalized for Congress' disfunction, but many of DC's strictly local land use decisions are delayed during shutdowns because the Nat'l Cap Planning Commission and Commission of Fine Arts are federal agencies.

States and territories have full control over their criminal justice systems. DC deserves the same, but currently only the president can grant clemency for DC crimes.
