How does one convince beta readers to stick around for a 6-book series? 🤔

I'm hoping to publish 2 a year because 5 already have 1st drafts, and the first of those is polished from when I queried it (though it's undergoing some minor-ish dev edits)

We got the kids white noise machines, and 6yo has picked a really calm version of "Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep little baby." And it's making me sleeping.

Meanwhile, 7yo has thunderstorms.

They have a very hidden page on their website that basically says they don’t have the time to do the editorial checks a publisher would. Er, what about looking at reviews? Or award winning indie authors? So damn archaic.

I’m starting to understand why my dad bought a vinyl player after CDs existed. I’m getting the urge to go back to CDs. Although I think that has more to do with wanting my kids to have access to music without having to ask a device (we got rid of our Alexas)

Wow. Essex libraries have a policy not to stock self published titles. They won’t even host local authors for events except at their cop-out once a year event.

The 2nd Fitz trilogy spoils something quite big in Liveships. But also the ships are awesome. It's a great trilogy.

I recently completed the Farseer trilogy from Realm of the Elderlings. It was probably the best trilogy I have ever read, and I read a lot. Very excited to get to all the other books. Here’s some fanart of Fitz and Nighteyes

That's a beautiful painting! The other books are so good. I recommend reading in publication order though. I did the 2nd Fitz trilogy before the Liveship trilogy and while I could work stuff out, it would have been way better the other way around

As she passed to the left of the tavern, her chest burned and her legs begged her to stop, yet she couldn’t waste the chance Arlan gave her. At the crossroads, she darted to the right and made for the garden, ready to spring over the fence.
Someone stepped out of the shadows. Someone wearing the surcoat of a mage soldier.
Quick as a hare, Eryn dodged left, but her weary legs buckled. The soldier caught her, and she was too exhausted to fight as he hauled her to her feet, supporting her while she caught her breath. He must have been a mercenary. A Guild mage would never have been so kind.

I absolutely loved the book as a kid. My aunt had a copy at my grandparents house and you can bet I stole it. I’ve still got it on my shelf. I think it’s a fairly early copy too.
