Many of the challenges facing the Ohio River are RIVER-sable with proper planning. CURRENT-ly, organizations like the Ohio River Basin Alliance are advocating to increase federal funding for cleaning up the basin

Learn more in the highlight notes from our Ohio River briefing: eesi.org/090925rivers
The Ohio River Basin spans 130 million acres and 15 states with a total population of over 30 million people.
Challenges facing the Ohio River Basin include aging and failing infrastructure that inhibits the distribution of goods and clean water; toxic pollution in the water from legacy pollutants, agricultural runoff, and urban stormwater; and extreme weather events. Natural ecosystems in the Ohio River Basin generate at least $50 billion in annual public benefits for the region.
There is currently no coordinated federal investment in the Ohio River Basin. Establishing coordinated federal support through a restoration initiative would make a significant difference in the well-being of ecosystems and people in the Ohio River Basin, as it has in other U.S. watersheds.

"As the sun is shining during the day, solar energy supply is plentiful. The key to solar energy is using energy storage to save it, shift it, and use it when it is needed." - Patrick Hennigan, Director of Federal Affairs at Pacific Gas & Electric Company
"We've forgotten how to build big projects in a fast way. There are opportunities to improve the energy grid through efficient, timely permitting." - Kyle Davis, Senior Director of Federal Affairs at the Clean Energy Buyers Association
"The energy grid is an aging system. Many of the transmission lines built in the 1950s and 1960s are reaching the end of their natural life. We need to replace them efficiently and affordably to keep prices down for consumers." - Zach Zimmerman, Research and Policy Manager at Grid Strategies
“The power system is a marvel of engineering -- one of the largest and most complex systems we have built. Historically, it has had specific characteristics that made the power system more complicated.” - Paulina Jaramillo, Trustee Professor of Engineering and Public Policy at ‪‬@cmu.edu
⏰ Briefing on improving energy grid reliability and resilience to lower energy bills is happening now! Tune in at eesi.org/livecast to watch. Follow along with EESI in the 🧵
