Had to shrink the candles on our now "hotly anticipated" year-in-review graphic. That's because ebbwater turns 12 today. The density of lit candles is inching towards being its own hazard!

Colleagues at ECCC are forecasting 1.45 ± 0.10°C above pre-industrial levels for 2025, slightly cooler than the record high temperature of 1.55°C of 2024 but virtually certain to be hotter than every year on record prior to 2023 #climatechange

Today's M7.0 earthquake off northern California was not a subduction earthquake, but is an important reminder for us in Cascadia (northern CA to northern Vancouver Island) that different types of large earthquakes occur here. Know what to do when the shaking begins ⚒️🧪

The themes were to: expect more and more costly events in future, focus more on planning before events rather than paying for them afterwards, and finally to consider difficult decisions around planned retreat.

Thank you! Helpful. Although, we are now pining for the actual 5-day regional forecasted water levels; we have helped some local authorities set thresholds given hyper-local conditions, and of course these may or may not be the event thresholds set by others.
