WBEZ/Sun-Times are crowd-sourcing a map of ICE raids.

Put aside what they’re doing and to whom and why.

The fact that the people of an American city, including the mayor and governor, have to guess where Federal agents are operating, is itself insane.

Sure, in the same way they know buying up Toys R Us and loading it up with debt will likely lead to eventual bankruptcy after they've got their money out and left. Someone else's problem by then.
I saw a couple in Santa Cruz and assumed they were a local thing. Monarchs winter here and we recently celebrated their return.

Proud papa moment: my son J published a letter in the @nytimes.com today (in print tomorrow) on the need to think our definitions of autism.

Hey now, as long as _they_ live free it's not their problem if other people die because of it.
Backup cameras are great (especially in a van or RV). With mirrors as backup it can't fail catastrophically.

Replacing the side mirrors with screens, however, is terrible. I don't think it's legal in the US but I saw it in a European EV (might have been a demo model, not production)
Why are the rings orange? Does that represent infrared, and if so why would they be warm?

Brown pelicans dive bomb the anchovy buffet, Monterey Bay.
Isn't California a two-party consent state? I hope these pervs get sued into oblivion.
The tariffs aren't 500%. Was there any explanation of other "fees"?
No, no, you're doing the Gell-Mann amnesia effect all wrong. Everything else is perfectly fine, honest!

What also baffles me is that Democratic Party is ~30 points underwater in favorability & Zohran Mamdani is ~16 points above water in favorability.

The Dem Party establishment, who is responsible for the abysmal rating, is too arrogant to support the guy ~50 points ahead of them. Incredible.

The alumni of this program are a who’s-who across silicon valley. Suspect there aren’t many law students following me here but if there is one in your life who is interested in tech law, they should apply.

Every single day of this administration, I have thought of my late professor Joe Nye and his work on soft power.

Every single day of this administration, Trump finds a new way to hemorrhage soft power from a country that once had more to spare than any in the world.

Looked at my data collections for state-backed activity. If the report were a picture:
Good point about the earlier dust bowl immigrants. My own grandfather and great-uncle moved from Michigan car factories to work on aircraft in S. Cal after the war, and later my wife's mom and two uncles did the same after graduating from MI Tech. When I was a kid it was a common story
World war 2 shook everything loose and they all rolled West until they couldn't go any further
Same, but coffee.
I don't think they care about the blocking, they just want to dodge public blame for it

I hate that the word "poaching" is commonly used to describe workers moving jobs to ensure they're getting paid the market rate for their services. It's corporate speak for "paying workers better than us," another garbage framing by Big Tech that we shouldn't accept. Worker mobility is a good thing.
Citizens United enabled the creation of corporations that launder "contributions" (not speech) into expenditures (speech), and hide who is fronting the money (by routing the contributions through shell companies)
