Have a snippet from my post-EW fic of Celestaux and Foulques to perfectly explain it lmao. Celestaux is always the "I'll sacrifice myself for you" while Foulques is the "I'll burn the world down for you" in the ship. They're very healthy

He'd barely understood what was happening when the Ragnarok landed and most of the Scions had started ushering people away from the docks and up towards the Agora, but the poorly disguised concern on their faces was enough for him to know that something was wrong. That and the blood still staining Thancred's gloves.

Foulques had pushed through the crowds of cheering and celebrating people, refusing to follow the flow up away from the docks, and that's when he saw Cel's near lifeless body being carried off the ship in Estinien's arms and he felt the world fall out beneath him.

If Estinien hadn't seen him immediately and said simply alive, Foulques likely would've burned all of Sharlayan to the ground, to hells with the Final Days being averted. They would've had a new enemy to deal with, the Star would've had him to contend with — and he'd have started with the Scions.

I need to lock in for the day and get so much work done, but know I'm slowly rotating Foulques around in my brain as I do it and thinking about Celestaux’s village forcibly telling him that this is his home too and they're his family now too and how that makes him feel so many complicated emotions

Thinking about Celestaux retiring sometime in the distant future and how hard it has to be - not mentally, he's read to retire, but physically. He's a man of myth, a man of legend, a man written about in history books and folktales and talked about by generations of people...

I should be allowed to hit my coworkers over the head with a cartoon hammer when they come to me hours after their deadline and say they still haven't made the necessary updates and will be doing so now - meaning all the work *I* did is pointless and needs to be redone

I don't have a way to end this thread, it was more stream of consciousness musings about Celestaux retiring some day. I just... I think about him a lot and how strong he had to be to say no more. The whole world looked up to him and put him on a pedestal and he had to make the choice to step off it

Celestaux had no desire to force his timeline on anyone else, least of all his husband. He'd have supported him if he never retired. But over the years he slowly stopped leaving Sharlayan more often for threats and they let the younger crowd, the new generation of heroes take over.

And that's not to say G'raha retired immediately with him. I think G'raha kept working as a Scion for a few more years - both for like consulting on various problems that arose, but also going out with them and the new hero to fight whatever threats arose.

But it was never meant to be forever. He's still that small town boy with dreams of settling down in a home with a white picket fence and two kids and a garden in the back. And to get that, he needed to retire at some point, even if it disappointed people. He was putting himself and his family first
