My hope for the Duckies game on Saturday is that we win so bigly that when ESPN or whoever is doing the weekend recap they don’t need to show a single clip or even say the full score - they just speed past saying “…and the Ducks dismantle Rutgers…”
Did not think I’d live through a pandemic, the return of fascism, and a genocide… but here the fuck we are.
Next family get-together is gonna be *fun* 😂
Totally normal sh!t, right?!

Almost like we founded the entire country on opposing this exact sentence.

Agreed - just not finding any inside runs seem to just be a big issue in the 2nd half
Man our LB and QB play was *bad*. And the coaches had almost as bad of a game. Can’t blame the defense too much they were on the field all damn day. Also please dear lawd run the ball. Fin.
Rewatched the Indiana loss and man the parallels between this and the Penn State side of the PSU vs UO game were striking. As “bad” as the loser played they still had a chance to take the game with +6min left in the 4th.

oh wow they are who we knew they were
"They referred to Black people as monkeys and 'the watermelon people' and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies and driving them to suicide and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery."

Gonna rewatch the Indiana vs Duckies game tonight because I’m mentally unwell.

If you take away the sack yardage from the running yards stats Oregon almost averaged 5yds per rush. Like why not lead with the run????
Quick thoughts post game (pre-rewatch):

Indiana: we’re the better team in all phases, D tackled SO well, won the trenches, made 1000 cuts

Duckies: horrible play calling, LB play, & o-line play. offense only scored 13 (missed a FG) and still was within striking distance until the 4thQ, RUN THE BALL
“our world is run by people who can’t read and who don’t know the obvious message of pop culture staples”
thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

What new horror will we thrust upon our consciousness today?

I think there are still shared norms we can appeal to when we talk to the marginal MAGA voter. But there really are no shared norms left with the core of the movement.
