For all we know, mass communication and media is the Great Filter that explains why the universe isn't full of sentient species and radio waves. They all killed themselves once factional propaganda could be generated and spread 1000 times over before the truth can even be reported.

Our society wasn't ready for this, and it's a debatable proposition whether any society possibly could be. I don't *think* it will lead to the end of our species. But if any ideology could lead to that, it's fascism, and fascism has used it to spread like metastatic cancer.

If a tool can be used for good or evil, but evil has more success and ultimately uses it to turn the planet into a fascist hellscape of drought, famine, and hurricanes... Then yeah, unleashing it was a mistake.

The worst part IMO is conceptually these might not be bad. Add a little bit of a binder, make a more consistent shape that doesn't look like literal dog shit, maybe cook them in the deep fryer or bacon-wrap them and tie off with twine for the grill...

This is just the ugliest possible version.

I think there's some conflation of two things here. Nazi eugenics policies weren't specifically derived from the US's, but they did take note of US policies around race - Jim Crow, segregation, and policy toward Native Americans in particular.

It's fun to watch just on the bully-getting-bullied level but it also hits the nature of the out-group in fascism perfectly.

When they need numbers, the in-group expands to recruit them.

When they've cemented power, the in-group shrinks so they still have an enemy to persecute.
