Whoa! I did not even recognize Tina Fey!

Sad thing is that - even for SNL - it wasn’t even funny. Not because they weren’t good at the impersonations. It’s that it’s all fairly accurate.

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

Screwworm.

The name says it all.
elizabethjacobs.bsky.social
Screwworm, which is a major threat to cattle and is already affecting beef prices, is advancing toward our southern border faster than expected.

No wall will keep it out. And the USDA inspectors who monitor it are currently furloughed.

Given what we're watching in Portland...

Here's information on attacking dictator-types with humor and mockery.

It's been branded "laughtivism."

And the Portland frog is showing how it works.

She probably should have impressed this upon Kavanaugh before he issued an opinion endorsing what are now known as “Kavanaugh stops.”

Amy Coney Barrett defends heavy use of the shadow docket: "If we wrote a long opinion, it might give the impression that we have finally resolved the issue, and in none of these cases have we finally resolved the issue."

This needs to be done more often. Ask the question, let them respond. Cut them off when you summarize the ORIGINAL question and move on. They don’t get to own the airwaves with nonsense.

What birthday girl isn’t super-excited when she gets a SAW!

Arg! I’m going to do damage with this!

I should have clarified - this is one that would make you hate humanity, be warned. Still a great show - it’s a definite watch.

I wish I could find more shows that did show our better sides in the end (that aren’t just comedies, which I struggle with).

Maybe I just need to re-binge Shitt’s Creek!

Finished The Knick. I know we like the drama of storylines, but sometimes audiences do just like for good things to happen without a twist. It almost makes me afraid to watch shows new to me, because I just keep wondering, “how is this character going to ruin my faith in humanity more?”

The thing about a Nor’Easter is that you always know from what direction the wind is coming!

Batten down the hatches everyone, the Nor’Easter is heading our way!

Seriously, please, stay safe and stay off the roads if you can. Don’t drive through flooded streets, and make sure your Halloween decorations don’t become flying debris!

“I spent three nights and three days in federal custody. During that time, I was never told what I was charged with, was not allowed to shower despite being covered in tear gas and pepper spray, had no phone call to my family, and no access to an attorney.” - George Retes, U.S. citizen and veteran.
I’m a US citizen and a veteran. ICE arrested me for no reason.
Jailed for three days without an explanation or ability to notify anyone, George Retes argues the only path to healing starts with the government taking accountability for its actions.

Every interaction on Twitter puts $$$ into the pockets of a man who single-handedly BROKE THE US GOVERNMENT.

I see why int’l folk don’t care, but Americans? My account is inactive (gathering porn-bot requests), maybe waiting for the day he sells.

Why hand-wringing? Use BSKY like you did Twitter…🤷‍♀️

This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.
Well – no. Bluesky may or may not be, as one centre-right friend who felt unwelcome put it, “self-righteous island”. But the idea that’s why we went is nonsense. That I’ve largely stopped posting on a site that’s done more to shape my career and social circle than the rest of the internet combined is less about avoiding rival opinions (I love arguing with people who are wrong!) than with the fact the site simply became unusable. It stopped generating the things (good jokes, interesting debate, clicks) I wanted; it became extremely good at generating the things (racists, pornbots, racist pornbots) I did not.
