I bought a big buttercup and roasted it with butter and citrus rind. I made the yeasted puff pastry from Chez Panisse Cooking. That recipe is so impossibly good, it’s the place where my hardcover binding has split.

As a Gen X kid obsessed with Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson & Prince who had Jazz and Blues playing all around but was drawn to Funk, we immediately identified with D’Angelo and clocked his influences…

He became OUR version. And now, he is one of the ancestors.

Woke up in the middle of the night and my throat was so sore it felt like I was swallowing hot daggers. I worried it was strep throat—which I had once and it was awful. This morning it seems like I have a bad cold. Hopefully, I’m getting it out of the system for the season.
