But then I am a grumpy old sod!

I am, of course, disappointed by that “first time sf was presented as serious and intelligent adult drama” line. But I recognise it’s the kind of ahistorical comment these pieces want. But you could at least have mentioned Kneale!

On this day in 1940 the BBC’s London headquarters, Broadcasting House, was hit by a huge bomb dropped by the Luftwaffe. Seven died and there was huge destruction.

Using oral history accounts and documents from the BBC’s own archives, I’ve tried to piece together how events unfolded that night
The Bombing of Broadcasting House
Broadcasting House in London, suffered two direct hits in the Blitz – causing widespread damage, several deaths, and many injuries.

Because it’s back on the telly, here’s the piece I wrote about how The Traitors is edited, and what it tells us about storytelling.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

A woman sits in a chair reading happily in a book-filled room.
 A voice offstage says
"You can't survive on books alone"
The woman replies
"Maybe I can!"

Panel Two:
"How?" asks the voice
"I don't know yet, but I'm sure the answer will be in one of my books." Says the woman

Panel Three:
Caption: However
The book is filled with yet more books.
A skull sits on the chair. It says
"I regret nothing!"

The death of multi-camera TV: a thread. I know most of you will know the technical parts of this (and may have read it in the other place) but bear with me. 1/ 🧵

Ruby Red Tor. October 2024 the aurora paid a visit to Glastonbury. This was the result of my last trip up there that night after several trips up there to find total cloud cover. This image is October in my 2026 Glastonbury Tor calendar.

Just caught a repeat of Sharpe’s Gold. It’s never going to be classic Nigel Kneale, but it’s fascinating to see him work within a format, while incorporating his own ideas. The only bad people are those using belief and the past to justify their own cruelty. War is cruel. Heroism is brave kindness.

Today I'm doing a talk about Women and the (early) Gothic and it might be time for a list!

So here are ten early women writers of the Gothic to give an idea of the range of things that women were creating in the period!

Guillermo del Toro, Netflix, and Gobelins have teamed to open a stop-motion studio in Paris. The endeavor shares a kindred spirit with Mexico's El Taller del Chucho, also co-founded by del Toro, and will honor stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson.

Also it needs reviews so...
It only has two so the field is wide open for a nice little Gothic theology review in most every relevant journal!

I feel like the title of my book - Theology in the Early British and Irish Gothic - isn't very sexy or puts people off thinking 'well, I'm not interested in theology so... meh'.

But my books offers well researched challenges on key Gothic issues 1/

The genius of Golden is its emotional range as well as the euphoric range of pitch variety in the lead vocals — so, this is a lovely video by Opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff on the technical singing of how EJAE hit that high A5 note, but also found power in the low E3
