Gentle reminder…the Special Criminal Court was opposed trenchantly and for compelling reasons by Mary Robinson before she became President; its continued existence has been criticised by the UN Human Rights Committee, UN Special Rapporteurs, the Irish Human Rights & …

The French President actively intervening in the politics of Madagascar, a former colony. The French military smuggling the contested and corrupt President out of the country. But of course we should not critique or question our dear ally France. www.lemonde.fr/afrique/arti...

Alors qu’il a quitté son pays avec l’aide de la France, le président malgache est apparu pour la première fois depuis que l’armée s’est mutinée et a refusé de démissionner.

So just to clear up this week we've learned the following things are threats to democracy:

- Pleading not guilty in court
- The Bar's professional ethical standards
- Criticising the media
- Voting No on a referendum
- Paul Murphy

Political discourse in this country is a complete mess right now

This is how Fine Gael TDs are now presenting the United Nations. The proud Irish tradition of international multilateralism dragged through the mud for the sake of attacking Catherine Connolly. Surely some in Fianna Fáil object to this denigration of the legacy of Aiken. What a disgrace.

Oh thanks Jennifer. This looks amazing.

If I never hear the names Ivan Yates or Joe Brolly again for the rest of my life, I will be much the happier for it

Netanyahu's mouthpiece, Amit Segal, casually admits on Twitter that his country has been holding 1,700 people from Gaza hostage, including children.
Among other things, according to the decision:

- 250 security prisoners will be released.
- 1,700 residents of the Gaza Strip who were not involved in the events of October 7 and were arrested after the massacre will be released.
- 22 minors under the age of 18, residents of the Gaza Strip who were not involved in the events of October 7 and were arrested after the massacre, will be released.
- 360 bodies of terrorists will be returned.

Have just seen that Joe Brolly clip about Heather Humphreys. Despicable. Clear misogyny. We have two women running for the Presidency and this is how he intervenes in the debate. He should be mortified.

It was wonderful to welcome @susiedeedigan.bsky.social to Maynooth last night where she spoke to a full house about her fascinating research on women republican prisoners in the 1940s.

If you are going to invite someone who is not a specialist on Palestine Israel to commentate on the ceasefire as an expert, the least you can do is ask the about how they reacted to those who raised the alarm about the impending genocide back in late 2023. This matters.

Was planning to visit Brussels for archives next week and hoping to give this city I have never liked another chance. Now the archives have cancelled my reservations saying they can't access the colonial collections. It remains top of my list of worst European capital cities!

Jonathan Ashworth: "I've wanted to see a ceasefire for 2 years"

The collective position of the Labour shadow cabinet (which you were part of) for months after October 7th was to reject a ceasefire & Labour instructed its MPs not to vote for a ceasefire in Nov 2023.

This presidnetial election has shown us that the self-styled party of Law and Order seems to reject two fundamental principles of the legal order, rehabilitation and the right to representation.

I got Michel Houellebecq's Atomised as a present the year it won the IMPAC award when I was 13. Still scarred. Gave me a lifelong hatred of Houellebecq though and I have cherished that. Also ultimately led me to one of my favourite interviews I've ever read www.theguardian.com/books/2008/m...

I wonder will we see any reckoning among European "liberal centrists" about the catastrophic failure of the man who was once their great white hope, Emmanuel Macron. He has wrought untold damage on confidence in politics and institutions in 🇫🇷 and has been an effective handmaiden for the far right.

My sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the Global Sumud Flotilla. I'm home safe & will be followed by the other Irish people today. I'm just catching up and have much more to share but for now I am so so grateful for everyone's attempts to free us. Remember that Gaza is the story not us.

Indeed though every landlord legally was then as they are now required to declare a tenancy to the RTB and they knew he had tenants and seemingly never asked evidence for this. It would have been easily verifiable.
