IOW, in my experience insular groups of white people tend to conform around opinions that are anathema to my health and wellbeing regardless of how they dress, so don’t show me what you’re wearing, show me who you’re friends with

I don’t know the context of this but my experiences as a teen in the Twin Cities suburbs led me to form the opinion that the self-described punks I knew largely befriended me as a smokescreen for their own racism, so to me it’s more that being a nonconformist doesn’t inoculate you from being an ass

“What about Susan?” Susan was an immature source and the Doctor was a much meaner character until feeding on Ian and Barbara softened him

Part of why he tried to murder Peri post-regeneration was due to spectrox poisoning but part of it was because he had been feeding off of just Turlough, possibly the most morally grey person in the original series to be a companion, prior to meeting her

Time Lords are psychic parasites that need to feed off of the mental energy of other species to maintain mental stability. This is why the Doctor is constantly picking up new traveling companions and why all the other rogue Time Lords are deranged.

This was an early lesson for me due to the number of classmates I had who died as a result of unfortunate accidents mostly caused by boredom, as well as losing my brother to a hit-and-run driver. I feel like I’ve been processing grief for pretty much my entire adolescent/adult life.

The last event I read that I thought was any good was the X-Men: Legacy thing where Legion tapped everyone in a remade world where he was a hero and everyone liked him, mostly because the stakes weren’t “this will end mutantkind as we know it”

It was also really well-constructed in that you could get an entire coherent story just by reading one of the books but there was a larger, richer story that revealed itself by reading everything; decidedly unlike many of the crossovers that followed it

Also, building Apocalypse’s Horsemen out of the carnage from that event while it was still happening, culminating in the Archangel reveal

It was a fantastic time to jump into the mutant world, the storytelling was just insane

I started buying X-Men comics the issue before Mutant Massacre and I was just taken aback by how bleak and brutal it was

It also kept me spending all of my allowance on X-Men comics throughout most of junior high and high school, right up until I discovered Cure bootlegs
