I remember reading an article from the WP a while back about how some members of the City Council were opposed to Walmart moving into Washington DC for just this reason. It’s not good corporate citizenship to be a drain the city’s resources by not paying a living wage to their employees.

I have a writing question for you!

Do you ever dream about your characters?

Or for people in a community (especially the Black community) to do each other's hair and nails.

Also I do not care anyway. White people have marginalized Black people for "looking poor" long enough that many now feel like looking put together is a necessity and THEY ARE RIGHT.
It annoys me when people say “they’re on SNAP but their hair and nails are done and they’ve got tattoos”. It’s extremely normal to do your own hair and buy press on nails, and tattoos literally last forever. What do tattoos someone got 10 years ago have to do with them needing to eat now
That sounds awkward but omg what a way to learn!
😬😬😬

I am SO sorry. Yikes. 😢
Some of the more relational stuff I learned from my sisters and (surprisingly) from music. But birds and bees is more a community thing not just from parents. My children didn’t want to hear that from me, so I opted in for sex ed and told them I was available for questions.
Sex ed in high school (1990s) generally talked about orientation (gay/straight/bi). We learned about intersex in science class. TV introduced trans people. Magazines is where I learned a lot about sex. Books and articles talked about everything else. I learned how to put on a condom in dance class.
I don’t remember the conversation because I was *really* young when my mom set us all down (I have two older sisters). From what I understand it was basic mechanics of how hetero sex worked with the caveat that we should wait until we were married. Sex Ed was to prevent pregnancy & STI.
did anyones parents *actually* talk to them about sex?

its been a plot point in like every TV show and movie about raising kids for like centuries at this point but does it actually happen?

i think "the birds and the bees" speech is entirely a ficticious construct
Yup.

Because Black people have to fight white supremacy REGARDLESS of class.
Because almost the entire Black Democratic community doesn’t trust him. You need to wake up to that. Black folks don’t have the luxury of playing footsy with politicians who aren’t ready willing and able to stand 10 toes down on matters that concern us. BS with his tepid responses and consistent
I read the entire article. His statement about Black people being drug dealers is in there (you asked) And Sanders has a history and pattern of tone deafness AND now saying how we need to move away from “identity politics.”

Maybe YOU should provide an example of him ACTIVELY supporting Black ppl.
Omg that sounds delicious!!
You should be proud of yourself 😍
Some of those literally reference his Twitter posts and his audiobook…
Of course you haven’t. Because you’re not impacted by it you don’t see it, and when people who can see it tell you about it, you argue back and minimize.

A tepid response to racial hostility isn’t “one time.” A laundry list of his problematic behavior is in this thread. Look into it.
You’ve got this! Praying it goes well for you AND your cousin. ❤️
