A prayer for the next Archbishop of Canterbury. 🙏
Almighty and everlasting God,
the only worker of great marvels,
send down upon your servant Sarah,
called to be Archbishop of Canterbury,
and all who are committed to her care,
the spirit of your saving grace,
and that they may truly please you,
pour upon them the continual dew of your blessing.
Grant this, O Lord,
for the honour of our advocate and mediator,
Jesus Christ.
Amen.

As the Langdale Moor fire has now been contained for several days in a row, a copy of a letter of thanks to the Chief Fire Officer and the many crews & support staff who have battled the fire with such energy, tenacity and determination (inc firefighter & Priest Fr Paul) @dioceseofyork.bsky.social
With the very good news that the Langdale Moor fire has now been contained for several days in a row, it seemed an apt time to write to you and, through you, the many crews and support staff who have battled the fire these past weeks.

I appreciate the job is not yet complete and much active firefighting continues to ensure its ongoing containment, but I wanted to pay tribute to the energy, tenacity and determination which North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service have displayed in the face of such a significant and demanding event. It has been a remarkable effort, with firefighters going above and beyond in service and protection of the Moors and the communities which make up such a blessed place. We also pay tribute to the partnership with, I believe, nine other Fire and Rescue Services across the country who have assisted the response, and the strong partnerships of local and national government to support such endeavours.

As churches across the area, we continue to give thanks for you and to pray for God’s blessing and protection. As you may know, one of our Priests, Revd Paul Burnett, is a full-time firefighter of some twenty five years’ experience serving out of Whitby. I was already due to spend a shift with him on Monday 13th October and am grateful that now provides opportunity in person to express the thanks here in writing.
