How do you feel about splitting the party?

This is such a common topic it has practically become a meme but is the concern real? Some say you shouldn't split the party cause it slows down the game, while others say it makes more tactical sense. What do you think & why?

Splitting a party makes perfect sense within the game world at times.
It is difficult for the Game Master to manage and often causes players to sit out of part of a session.
As long as these conditions do not cause the game to be "not fun" for everyone involved, it should be okay.

Comparing editions of D&D is like comparing the Imperial System to the Metric system and getting lost in the conversions.
You never needed to do conversions.
Each system will work. Just use the system you prefer.
