I have extended family - the Bosschers, for one - with strong Rehoboth connections. My sister-in-law’s mother died tragically in 2003 in Albuquerque and is buried in Rehoboth Cemetery. I have visited there a couple times.

Hey NYC Bluesky, this lovely little restaurant that just happens to be down the street from me is struggling and could use your help. Please support, their food is excellent (and we are in dire need of good places to eat on Franklin)! agiscounter.com

Pratt’s Castle, Elgin, IL, photo taken by me this afternoon. I have biked by this several times this year (the Fox River Trail passes by it directly), but never has the light been so favorable as it was today.

Butera Supermercado on the south side of Elgin (not quite South Elgin; there’s a diff) has 16-oz cans of Low-Cal Sprecher Root Beer at the low price of 2/$3. No aspartame! I know I should be more discerning re the other ingredients, but aspartame has rung my internal alarm, it seems, for decades.
A 16-oz can of “Low-Cal Root Beer” from Sprecher, the famous Milwaukee craft brewery. Ironically, I was not able to find it on a recent visit to that city! Lo-Cal Root Beer from Sprecher’s list of ingredients, as they appear on a 16-oz can held by me.

Late afternoon shadows on the Fox
Looking out toward the Fox River from a deck at a house on the river’s east bank, a few minutes north of downtown Elgin, Illinois this afternoon around 4:15 pm.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

I was biking through Elgin, IL yesterday afternoon and a guy was running a leaf blower in the middle of a street. No visible leafage or visible debris. I left him to it. Leaf blowers seem to adversely affect the cognition of those who use them. Or maybe it’s a “chicken and egg” scenario…🤔

Oswego Family Restaurant brews Intelligentsia Coffee and has sassy AF servers FTW.
Two guests seated at a front window booth at Oswego Family Restaurant on Main Street (naturally), Oswego, IL. Decaf. You don’t want to see me over-caffeinated.

Oswego - End of the Trail (FRT)!
Made good time, I think.
The end, or beginning of the Fox River Trail, depending on one’s perspective. It’s not quite to my halfway point in terms of miles as I’m trying to reach 65-70.

Here comes the 5:15! I’m parked on the deck for the duration (of the evening).

FINALLY on the Fox, after a train accident and a “chain accident.” Trail was relatively dry after the recent rain, and McHenry County has a kickass trail sweeping vehicle, so it was mostly free of leaves.

First to arrive gets to choose the best room, right?

UPDATE: my Uber driver just took us past the scene of the accident in Fox River Grove

Ugh! Of course, this is the train directly in front of mine….so we’re sitting at Palatine. 🥴

Thanks! I’ve been inside once before for a memorial service, but that was about 20 years ago.

I had RSVP’d a while ago for Katinka Kleijn (Dutch cellist) at May Chapel this Sunday, 10/19 at 2 pm but don’t see a response in my email re tix. Maybe it’s gratis? 🤔

Off to the Fox for a 3-day escape with some old (but good) MSP besties)! 🚴‍♂️
Panniers, gloves, Ottoman cap and bike helmet propped on the seat next to me on a Metra train en route to Crystal Lake. Oh, an iPhone charger, too.

Four years ago today, Nürnberg. “Eckfigur” (corner figure, literally) near Egidienplatz. Photo by me.
Statute of a priest, or possibly a saint/biblical figure, holding a staff, with a dog, mounted in a corner niche of a building in Nürnberg‘s Altstadt, or Old City.
