all PF / C lineup is much more fun
Today’s Halloween movie rec: Us (2019). A lot has been made of Jordan Peele's films serving as allegory / racial commentary, but they work as straight-up excellent horror movies. The premise of Us is creepy as hell and the execution is masterful. Just look at that movie poster.
I fully support @scottwiener.bsky.social, but a fair question: is this what's best for California?

I'm coming to the place where I value thoughtful, policy-minded representation more within CA than in the federal gov't.

Should we be paying CA legislators more? How do we keep them here?
It’s official: I’m running for Congress to represent San Francisco!

I’ll fight for our city – against Trump’s takeover, for our values, & for real progress. I’ve delivered on housing, healthcare, clean energy, & civil rights – & I’ll do it again.

Let’s build the future our city & country deserve.
Honorable mention today related to Halloween movies: the opening scene in 28 Weeks Later.

That movie was a real disappointment, but that scene sticks in my mind like few others. That scene was directed by Danny Boyle, and I'll always wonder what could have been if he had directed the entire film.
Today’s Halloween movie rec: Night of the Living Dead (1968). George Romero’s first and (IMO) best zombie film. If you haven’t watched it because it’s slower paced and black-and-white, you should reconsider. Character-driven, creepy, tense, a true classic. I love slow, but relentless, zombies.
Today's Halloween movie recommendation: High Tension (2003). French film in a classic thriller/horror style: two young women in a secluded farmhouse are terrorized. Not a straight slasher at all, though, and (from my recollection) much higher quality than similar films.
How are you watching the game?
Gotcha. Yeah, that’s definitely the same.
I haven’t seen the actual tattoo. Has it been published?

Today’s Halloween movie recommendation: Attack the Block (2011) - alien monsters fall from the sky and a bunch of hooligan teens from South London fight back. Very fun.
Recently reviewed a (now) 180+ unit project in Washington, DC pursuing #LEED Gold. The project is a full gut and renovation of a ~100-year-old building in Northwest.

A lot has changed in the 20 years since I lived in DC. I never loved it there, but it's become a true model for urban dev.
Harvard Hall
Originally built in 1928, Harvard Hall is an existing 156 unit apartment building undergoing a full gut renovation and modernization.  A unique partnership between the tenant association and the...

TBF to you, “white male marine might have Nazi sympathies” has slowly worked its way into our priors.
I haven’t seen any reporting that he was into Nazi stuff. It seems he got skull tattoo that resembles a Nazi icon. Looking at the ADL image for the Totenkopf (attached), I consider it unrecognizable.

But I’m not actually sure what his tattoo looks like.

Fwiw, this is what ADL classifies as the Totenkopf. I think it’s fair to say most people would never recognize that as a Nazi symbol.
Love it, but sadly… also:

2 of the 5 highest-spending teams come out on top. $ wins again.

Today’s Halloween movie recommendation: The Crazies (2010). This is a remake of a George Romero classic zombie-like movie. Starring Timothy Olyphant before he got big.

Not one for the kids.

Not that she has a shot at this point, but I'm officially crossing
@bettyyeeforca.bsky.social off my list of candidates I'd consider for Governor of California.

Saying she wouldn't sign #SB79 is totally disqualifying.

Thanks to NIMBY group Catalysts for Local Control for getting the tea!
I think his analysis is fair, and a useful warning for Democrats. They need to be out there more, pushing this as Trump’s shutdown. They really haven’t.

Today's Halloween movie recommendation: Cabin in the Woods. It's a clever twist on classic horror films. Starts out as a bunch of kids about to get killed at a cabin in the woods, then takes a fun turn.

Just don't watch trailers because they always include spoilers.
But they are wrong. Biden passed the most monumental climate bill in history just a few years ago. In California, massive efforts have yielded progress on issues ranging from climate to housing. Obamacare was a huge success.

People want everything and they want it now. That’s not how it works.
