Did you know that you needed to hear Bob & Susan (Bob McGrath & Loretta Long) sing “Happiness” from YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN? Well, now you know that’s a thing that you needed…

Gen X had the best kids TV of all time and this clip alone proves we have deeply tender souls under our curmudgeonly shells.

I have spoken.

I have that gigantic book as well. It kinda has to lie flat on my shelf.

But I certainly don’t want to put the strip down. Jim Davis’ cat had been an inspiration to a lot of people, including @suprdee2.com, one of the most determined creators in the business.

I like Garfield…to a point. Too much Garfield gets annoying. I like him as a character design. I really liked the TV specials and Saturday morning shows.

Despite his popularity with kids (at least in the 1980s…do kids read Garfield books now?), Jim Davis certainly wasn’t writing for children.

When @unpackingpeanuts.bsky.social was looking at the late 80s and 90s Peanuts and talking about zipatone is when I started looking at examples elsewhere. There were times when the sheer amount of zipatone used really complicated color reprints of Floyd Gottfredson Mickey Mouse in comic books.

The adhesive on Zip-a-Tone does not age well. Photo taken from “The Art of Jim Davis’ Garfield”, (2016, Hermes Press):

Can I use it to react to this potentially becoming a meme? (It’s a bit meta, but this is the internet…)

Sometimes you pause a movie at the perfect moment when someone comes knocking at your door to sell you something:

How many different platforms are there?

Aw. I didn’t find that Tony Strobl panel anywhere on the site you linked to.

People don’t want to see artists as people, they just want art as a product. Maybe that’s why so many people like AI now. It’s art that doesn’t disagree with them because nobody made it.

Rest in peace, Drew Struzan. The poster of his that has always been a favorite of mine is one for DuckTales the Movie. If you have the comic adaptation from 1990, you can also see this poster without the lettering on the back cover (although it does have a UPC code in the corner).

Superman had Krypto to save him, and Super Goof had a dog who looks a lot like Donald Duck’s dog Bolivar:

The colors are a lot more subtle in the newer series. That said, I still have a lot of nostalgia for painted cels shot on film.
