Long before becoming the District of Columbia, these lands were home to indigenous peoples.

Native American artifacts have been found all over DC, including Rock Creek Park, Anacostia, the Arboretum, Van Ness, the Palisades, Capitol Hill, and even the White House.

For too long, out-of-state drivers have been able to rack up thousands of dollars in traffic violations without facing consequences for putting our residents in danger.

Thanks to the STEER Act and under @dcattorneygeneral.bsky.social's leadership, we are now holding these drivers accountable.

NEW: We won our first court judgment against a dangerous out-of-state driver under the STEER Act.

The Court ordered Ayanna Khalya Wilson to pay $77,100 for over 200 dangerous driving violations.

We also filed 12 new lawsuits against Maryland and Virginia drivers with nearly 2,000 traffic offenses.

Idling engines and engine exhaust pollute our air, make our communities noisier, and cause serious diseases like lung cancer.

In DC, the harmful effects of idling are magnified because charter buses move millions of visitors here each year.

We will not allow companies to risk DC residents' health.

Under our settlement, DC Trails will:

➡️ Program its bus engines to shut off after three minutes of idling

➡️ Conduct anti-idling training for all its drivers

➡️ Submit to compliance monitoring by the District

➡️ Pay $85,000 in penalties

➡️ Pay additional penalties for any further noncompliance

In 2020, DOEE found the company violated DC's anti-idling laws 6 times.

DC Trails agreed to stop illegally idling buses and train its drivers.

Instead, it violated idling restrictions at least 31 more times from 2021-2024 and operated without a business license from 2021-2025.

DC's Air Pollution Control Act bans many gas and diesel-powered vehicles from idling their engines for more than three minutes when temperatures are above freezing.

These restrictions protect DC residents from air pollution and the devastating health impacts of diesel exhaust.

NEW: A charter bus company will pay $85,000 and adopt strong anti-idling measures across its entire bus fleet.

DC Trails repeatedly violated anti-idling laws and operated without a required basic business license for more than three years.

We will always enforce the District's air pollution laws.

Misclassification allows companies to illegally cut costs and evade taxes - all at workers' expense.

An OAG investigation found that Unique On The Go misclassified 84 of its District workers as independent contractors.

As a result, these workers routinely made less than minimum wage, were never paid overtime, and did not get sick leave benefits - all in violation of DC law.

NEW: Unique On The Go, a car detailing and rental company, will pay $166,000+ after OAG found that it failed to pay workers overtime & minimum wage.

OAG will always fight to ensure that workers get paid what they're owed and that companies can compete on a level playing field.

Our Child Support Services Division works with parents and guardians to ensure timely and consistent child support payments.

Now, 500 DC families will see up to a 33% increase in payments to help cover housing, food, and transportation costs.

In addition to securing this judgment, our office filed new lawsuits against eight Maryland drivers and four Virginia drivers.

Together, these drivers amassed $619,632 in tickets for 1,989 infractions in DC.

OAG has now sued 24 dangerous drivers under the STEER Act in 2025.

DC will now move to enforce and collect the judgment in both DC and Virginia.

OAG sued Wilson in April 2025 after she racked up 244 traffic citations in DC.

31 of Wilson's tickets were for driving 20+ miles per hour over the speed limit, and 8 were for driving 30+ MPH over the limit.

Speeds of 30+ MPH over the limit qualify as aggravated reckless driving in the District.
