I asked Moriyasu about this game and his perspective as a former player on what tonight's result means:

"The result was 0-3 but it felt like a much bigger loss. But when Japan, not only wrt soccer but in various fields, sets a target, we build on past results and try to figure out how to improve...

Before today, the Japan men's national team record against Brazil stood at P13, W0, D2, L11, including a 1995 3-0 defeat at Anfield in which current manager Haijme Moriyasu featured.

Down 2-0 at half-time, Japan won 3-2, with ex #lfc player Takumi Minamino starting the comeback.

That means the Samurai Blue now counts Israel (L7), Romania, (D1 L3), Senegal (D2, L2), Italy, England, the Netherlands (all D1 L2), and Kuwait (L3) as teams they played on more than two occasions and failed to register a win. *

* This also includes the Soviet Union (L3).

Serious answer - I suspect it's to do with terrorism. Not sure what concentration of the product you're looking for, but I remember this and I'm fairly sure the explanation was about it being a precursor chemical for bomb-making/terrorism.

Less regression to the mean, more the regression is actually being mean.

I'd take them more seriously if the party had announced that they're against the work of Jeffrey Archer.

It sort of made sense. They took the (morse) code from the old railway station for Malton (where Pearson now is), which was YZ - Pearson used to be called Malton Airport. And for reasons to do with weather monitoring stations/beacons, that's why all Canadian airports begin with "Y".

Lunch, then. Lunch.

It's 06:17 in Amsterdam and I'm listening to Seattle sports radio (KIRO), thinking I'll go for breakfast after this Mariners game finishes.

As a nice aside, a judge of the PCIJ at the time - albeit he wasn't part of this judgment - Frank B. Kellogg was himself awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1929 for the Kellogg-Briand Pact, officially the "General Treaty for Renunciation of War as an Instrument of National Policy".

Ruminating on @davidallengreen.bsky.social's post, Norway and Denmark also peacefully resolved Greenland's status at the Permanent Court of International Justice (the ICJ's predecessor) in 1933 in Denmark v. Norway, rather than, say, the latter attempting to permanently occupy Eastern Greenland.

Enjoyably, the first trade mark to feature the word "soccer" followed not long after, in 1927 (searches have been limited to the UK only).

Guess who registered it? That (then) most British of companies, Cadbury. Which I suspect will make @davidallengreen.bsky.social smile.
davidphillips.bsky.social
It was also, as far as I can see, the second trade mark ever registered in the UK to contain the word "football" (March 1926). The first was just three months earlier, in December 1925.

A lot of people know Timpson / The Timpson Group for their fair work practices, employment/reintegration of ex-convicts, and family ownership. It was a delight this morning to discover they also used to manufacture football boots.

Not if you speak British English, and I suggest all Americans reacting in horror to to M-W's fact start talking like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins immediately.
davidphillips.bsky.social
Thankfully not if you're British, because i would otherwise simply be unable to accept this.

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’

It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.”

It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”

FIFA has applied to register the trade mark "Afghan Women United" in the class typical for sports and entertainment. This is presumably the official name and logo for the Afghan women's refugee team, which will play in a four team tournament alongside Libya, Chad, and the UAE at the end of October.

That might be a reasonable point, albeit one that hasn't really been made. Nonetheless, I imagine if you or I were scammed out of tens of thousands of dollars - to the extent that it was more than our annual net earnings - we would probably think that alone was deserving of prosecution.

If she was guilty of anything it was gullibility, but she was also ultimately (one of) the first to see through Delvey/Sorokin's façade. What she wasn't was wealthy. I just find it a bit odd that some (not you!) find her appealing - as if a kind of latter day Robin Hood - when she was just robbin'.
davidphillips.bsky.social
There's a pretty good indication that she was earning around $85,000 per year gross, in New York - not close to rich in that city. That is not a "poor socialite", never mind the meaning of a socialite is someone who traditionally doesn't actually do paid/salaried work.
davidphillips.bsky.social
Feels like it's poking at the edges of the city night-time economy/hospitality industry rather than addressing the underlying issues - declining disposable income, increased rents (commercial/household), higher costs (utilities, produce, etc), and a lack of non-gentrified spaces/hostility to noise.
davidphillips.bsky.social
No she didn't. The Vanity Fair photo editor she scammed - the one who ultimately revealed the truth about her - wasn't rich. She wouldn't have been in even the top 20% of earners in New York at the time.

With the European Club Association now introducing themselves as European Football Clubs, and the already existing Union of European Clubs, it's all going a bit Monty Python.

He's naturally been fired by the JFA, while separate reporting states he'd deliberately lowered the age threshold in his searches and "he did not realise it was illegal in France and that he was ashamed".
