Hi I’m Danica, if you don’t already know me from Twitter I’m an environmental and housing campaigner based in Bristol UK. I’ve dedicated the past 4 years to saving our Sites of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCIs) which includes species rich grasslands like the Western Slopes and Yew Tree Farm

This is what yimbys sound like when they call anyone that cares about the environment the ‘vegetable lobby’ 😂

Good thing I like my wildlife cancelled! 😆 I hope this brings some much needed humour into a dark week for nature. #natureSwiftie

I should be asking you the same.

In fact this snail is both protected in its own right as an extremely rare species and protected because the development in question is part of a water abstraction limit zone. The reason building has been stopped is because of the water abstraction; the snail is not in the building site.

That’s actually not true and not how indicator species work. Dan is right here.

"The chancellor appeared to be referring to the little whirlpool ramshorn snail, which is 5mm in diameter, and one of the rarest creatures in Britain. It is an indicator of clean rivers and ponds as it is very sensitive to sewage pollution."
Dispiriting.

I don't want to get all Chesterton's Fence here, but if you don't understand that a "microscopic snail" is an indicator species that's protected for the health of the entire ecosystem, you probably shouldn't be forming "good relationships" with developers

Exclusive: Chancellor says 20,000 homes were being held up due to ‘some snails that are a protected species or something’

Wow that was quick!! @annaclarke.bsky.social literally seconds after I call out your misinformation you blocked me just like I said you would. You can block me but you can’t silence me. I will always be here fighting for the nature you want to destroy and fact checking your misinformation. 💚
danicapriest.bsky.social
FYI the OEP has said the planning bill is still a regression so why are you telling people they support it?
danicapriest.bsky.social
Why do housing professionals and yimbys seem to think they know more about ecology than professionals ecologists? I’m not out here telling surgeons how to do surgery so where do you get your audacity?
danicapriest.bsky.social
Do you really think you know more about this than professional ecologists? Good lord. 🤦🏻‍♀️
danicapriest.bsky.social
I remember you from Twitter. You are always full of misinformation and are horrible to environmental campaigners. You block anyone that corrects your misinformation and you promote killing endangered species and habitats in favour of development. Looks like you haven’t changed.

"it is an indicator of clean rivers and ponds" ... "It is almost extinct in the United Kingdom". hmmm that doesn't sound good if those two facts are connected.

... of these decisions results in a river die-off, persistent drought, or other environmental crisis, it is unlikely that any of the people who advise that this was a quick and cheap way to get Britain building will be answering questions or picking up the phone.

...of the North Sussex Water Neutrality Area from "protected" to "don't worry about it", accepting that the number of population of this poor little snail will probably decrease from three to two, and assuming that no other bad consequences will ensue.

So reading between the lines I think what the chancellor has pre-announced to a industry conference (at least outside of market hours thanks for small mercy, not that I know if the developer is a quoted company) is that someone has decided that we are just going to change the status ...
