Creative people can run circles around AI.
David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
The pumpkin weigh-off in Half Moon Bay is the best geekfest for those who appreciate small agriculture surf-town vibes. It’s my fave event here all year.

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

This is excellent! Thanks for sharing it. I get questions all the time about breaking into writing, and I know they want a magical key, but that key is “do a lot of writing.”
Thankful to be among the 600+
After Columbia canceled my course on race and media, and Washington Poat fired me for speaking about race and violence,

Now it’s Apple TV. I guess it’s “bad timing” to have a show that depicts things that are actually happening.
My adorkable Labradors through the years made me a dog person.

I would love to hear her on your podcast.
You know, sometimes I temporarily forget how it used to be, and this article hit hard. That was exactly it.

Much-needed good news in journalism.
Something good: a new, nonprofit newsroom run by some wonderful, experienced folks (core crew from Outside mag's glory days) dedicated to journalism about American public lands! Looks like the plan is to collaborate a fair bit with other outlets.
