Out for a walk this evening, a woman stopped me to make sure I heard the tree frogs.

If I had explain American history in one sentence, I could do worse than "John Brown was hung for treason, but Robert E. Lee was not."
John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry began on this day in 1859.

this one definitely got a bit of a double take from me...
Sigh, paywall. Now I have to decide if reading these two articles is worth a buck. Probably maybe.
I’m wondering if there’s a time shift on that increase because during the day it’s much deader now than it was.
I can’t think of a mall let alone be in one without images from Dawn of the Dead coming to mind.
Ok, I just read the article and I can say with confidence that in the whole time I lived in Southern California, there was never the firing of live ordnance over the freeway. This seems a remarkably BAD idea. The only positive thing I can think of is that Vance and company will be at the bangy end
In all the years I lived in Southern California I don’t think it ever happened.

But

I wouldn’t be surprised if this live fire / parade thing is also something that has never happened.
(from me by way of clarification): She’s talking about Space Cat.

🪬🧿 Stop and look at the wolf.

The image is of a timber wolf looking directly into the camera. Above the wolf is written: "STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING" and below the wolf is written: "OK now you can continue".
Sometimes though, that’s all it takes.
Barbara, he’s coming to get you… with his P-Bass.
Tron Ares was a reasonably good movie for what it set out to do. It might have helped that I went in with lowered expectations and Tuesdays are $6 movie night at my local cinematic emporium.
I’ve seen the rule of thumb offered that anything that was only available behind a login wouldn’t be considered published.
You can order your own copy of the issue from the California State Poetry Society.
It will snuggle up with you in bed and keep you warm at night.

Three new poems in the latest California Quarterly, “Museum of Broken Hearts,” “Jubilate Mammonæ” and “Carmen Philomaicum” (this last is my first published translation).
A photograph of the text of one of my poems, Jubilate Mammonæ:

Let us praise wealthy men, our LORDs
	from conception to death
For from them we find our own worth
	without them we are naught.
Let us laud them, love them, let them
take the riches of the land
For they may never have enough.
Let us thank them for the scraps they
bequeath us from their great bounty
For by their grace do we live.
Let us pardon their iniquities
	and their small mortal sins
For their perfection is like God’s.
Let us respect their right to rule
to bind us with their rules
For there is no rule without rulers.
Let us suffer and be thankful.
Let them take and not give thanks.
Let all the world resound with our hymn of praise.
For the wealthy live beyond law.
For the wealthy live beyond justice.
For the wealthy live beyond fear
	except the fear of death.

Things that I thought were cool in Heinlein when I was a teenager feel creepy when I think about them as an adult.
