In my lifetime the GOP has:

Betrayed American hostages in Iran to win an election
Sold weapons to terrorists
Crashed the economy multiple times
Shut down the gov multiple times
Taken away women's right to bodily autonomy
Put children in debt for school lunches

And their voters did get over it

In Seattle? Why not Uber to SeaTac and grab a rental there, it would definitely be less than owning a car, and the airport has 24 hour service

The Modern Media Model (rev.)

Stoke hatred and moral panic by platforming bigots.

Cover consequences of platforming bigots.

Produce chin-stroking content "concerned" over the moral panic.

Publish selected voices from the suffering for "balance"

Profit.

Rinse and repeat.

He did know how to open a novel, though; the first real paragraph of Moby Dick is among my favorite writing in the English language, despite the fact I don't care for the rest of the book

He didn't concern himself with narrative or character arcs, he simply described the different steps for rendering whale oil, and how to handle the carcass before, during, and after, the process

Lol fair

It's worth remembering that I'm the time before TV and radio, Melville's bread and butter were travelogues, and these were often the only exposure Midwesterners had to various cultures and locales

Trump is the first President in U.S. history to preside over THREE shutdowns that all started when his party controlled the entire government.

You mean the travelogue? Because who doesn't enjoy reading an encyclopedia of whaling, right?

I swear Moby Dick only has a plot by accident

Not everything has to be tailored to my taste; the world would be far less interesting if that were the case

Readers need to stop using "Romance" (including "Romantasy") as a pejorative

Not only is this better written than anything in A Song of Ice and Fire, it has less sex than any of those books. But people don't call Game of Thrones "romance" for some reason.

I tried watching the Netflix adaptation last night, and it was just a yawn

No soul. No atmosphere. No vague unsettling sense of wrongness.

Thanks, Bari!

CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.

Next question should be: what’s the point even of appropriations or Congress if the Executive branch can just refuse to spend appropriated funds whenever it wants

Sometime a few days ago made this point about Russ Vought, that essentially gay marriage is legal because Disney is run by Jews, and that if they just get someone else at the top saying what is or isn't acceptable then the culture will shift to match
