Someone will have to do a narrative film like / based on #Sugarcane so more people learn about this. It won't be as powerful, I'm sure, but it will reach people who don't watch docs. And if a narrative film already exists, I want more.

I was in Toronto for Orange Shirt Day aka "National Day for Truth and Reconciliation". I had zero clue what it was. I just happened to be walking about downtown at sunrise + came by the ceremony. I stayed & listened to the testimonies. Photos were not allowed until the end.

First Nations ceremony in downtown Toronto. "Orange Shirt Day, observed each year on September 30th, commemorates the children taken into residential and boarding schools in the U.S. and Canada. It is a time to honor the children who never returned home from these institutions, and to recognize the survivors and families who still carry this history."
