But any justifications for his current state of wakefulness dissolve on his tongue as he takes in Hubert’s rigid comportment.

“H-hey,” he says. “Are you okay? I didn’t really wake you up, did I?”

A sigh. His brother ducks his head, just so, and mutters, “No. You did not.”

They grew up here together. Memories haunt this manor, this courtyard, the paths of the town winding out to Lhant Hill. To the cemetery. To Barona, to a ship bound for Strahta.

The other day I offered some teenagers on the bus free weed in exchange for bringing down the ridiculous decibel level in a confined space and they said what the hell is wrong with you. The kids don't like sex OR drugs anymore apparently. Who says no to free weed
