He/him. Originally from the Finger Lakes, moved to the Canadian prairie. Not because it rhymes with my name, but I don't mind that. Lawyer in two countries, competent adult in neither.

I know it's just my bad eyes that made me read this lawyer's name as "Ed Gein," but I am not going back to double check
elienyc.bsky.social
Now we're onto the 3rd lawyer, Ed Greim. He's arguing on behalf of the white folks who believe their constitutional rights are being violated by not being allowed to overrepresent themselves in Congress. He's arguing for a straight reppeal of Section 2 of the VRA.

For some reason I thought you had been recently. Disregard, will do my own research!
crary.bsky.social
Do you find this to be true of Canada? I moved here just a few years ago and to be honest, haven't noticed a big difference!
crary.bsky.social
I think you're right, but I also think it's important to point out that they already have it in the form of legacy admissions, nepotism, structural racism, etc.

BREAKING: James Comey to file a motion to dismiss due to Felon Trump’s illegal appointment of Lindsay Halligan as US Attorney in the EDVA.

I’ve got the details on the latest, incl. the judge agreeing Comey should have access to certain info as he prepares his defense.

Side note, but I unironically love that Shadowrun, an objectively deranged mishmash of concepts, has triumphed as a core TTRPG.

I have a lot of issues with Hochul, but she has this one exactly right.

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

My first real memory of the "states rights" argument was "you can't make us celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day," so yeah. Pretty much always the same story.

Yes, Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard, the people on the flotilla unarguably exposed themselves to great risk. It does not follow that what happened to them was not also criminal.

We’ve met with Greta Thunberg and others in the flotilla. They describe hours-long scenes of torture and sexual harassment in Israeli captivity. Experts conclude that they have been subjected to serious crimes – Sweden’s foreign minister believes they have themselves to blame.

Hey, isn't that the kid from the Super Nintendo commercial?
crary.bsky.social
Wow. Well there's my rabbit hole for today. Thank you!
crary.bsky.social
Ah, yes, good one. Forgot all about that.
crary.bsky.social
Ugh. Can't believe I typoed THAT one (okay, I sort of can believe it).
crary.bsky.social
Totally agree. Just trying to sort of reverse engineer Kavanaugh's jurisprudence here.
crary.bsky.social
I hate that 'DARVO' is such a useful mental model, because it seems too reductionist and simple, but darn if it doesn't have a lot of explanatory power.

Ummm, actually, Anne Rice taught us all that vampires can be very introspective

(I get the joke, I just couldn't resist going all Bluesky on it!)

Mike Johnson: "They berated a Capitol police officer, screamed at him. He was merely standing his post. It shows, again, their disdain for law enforcement, the Democrats, screaming, assaulting officers."

Off the top of my head, I feel like this is a shout-out to Roberts' decision in Shelby County?

I cannot get over the fact that this is essentially the exact antithesis of the American Revolution. Just remarkably Orwellian territory.
crary.bsky.social
Yeah. I still think legal and constitutional analysis should be done, but we're in a post-constitution world at the moment. We have to fight to get back to baseline rule of law.

Whether the Voting Rights Act is needed anymore shouldn't be a question for the Supreme Court to answer, but under Roberts they've turned themselves into an uber-legislature.
elienyc.bsky.social
Alito says that we can figure this out with math. Nelson agrees, gives Alito the math that defeats his point.

Alleged attempted rapist Brett Kavanaugh jumps in to essentially ask if Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act even still needs to be a thing.

I guess I never knew that Novo Nordisk's logo is the Egyptian Goddess Hathor. Weird.

What are Nuzzi's sins aside from this whole nonsense? (Not meant to be argumentative! I honestly am not sure!)
