Day 15: AfrAId (0.5/5 ⭐️)

I could discuss the movie's confusing, self-contradictory plot. I could mention how it seems to entirely lack a middle act. I could even bring up its terrible ending. But I think @cooberteehee.bsky.social would do a better job than I ever could explaining why AfrAId sucks.

AfrAId is genuinely one of, if not the worst horror film I have ever seen. There are many others that are far less competently put together, look far worse, and all around are objectively worse as a whole. But those have something AfrAId wishes it could have, soul. This is a soulless movie that doesn’t fit into the genre it was attempting to be a part of. The message of this movie falls on its face countless times all throughout, especially due to the abysmal thing it calls an ending. The acting as a whole is horrific, not helped by the script feeling completely AI generated, ironically enough. Nothing about this movie feels good to witness, there are little to no positives I can find in this outside of some good camera work, but that’s not gonna help this in the slightest. Horrible in every sense of the word.

Day 14: Heart Eyes (1.5/5 ⭐️)

I'd rather watch a bad film than an insecure film. Unfortunately, Heart Eyes is extremely insecure in its script. Lots of unfunny jokes, even during serious moments, and lampshading that made my eyes roll. At least the killer has a fun design and the gore is fantastic.

I think this movie is the quintessential modern slasher film, having just about everything you need to be a slasher. Great kills, unique-ish idea, story being kind of lacking with a fairly predictable end, and that’s awesome

Day 13: Silence of the Lambs (5/5 ⭐️)

Haunting. A stellar script, a stellar cast, stellar cinematography. Everything about this film is fantastic.

The topic of gender is handled shockingly well given the time period. While not perfect, it's still discussed with a level of tact that's appreciated.

Day 13 features Hannibal Lecter, harnessed to a dolly while in a straight jacket. The text overlaid reads "Trans Rights??".

I couldn't actually find a good render of Hannibal himself, so I used an action figure instead. I really hope nobody notices.

Day 12: Basket Case (1/5 ⭐️)

So like, obviously Basket Case is a bad movie. I don't think I need to explain why. But it's also a really, really funny movie. Almost every line in this film is delivered in the worst possible way and it's fantastic.

Also got to see Kevin Hentenryck's penis, 10/10

Day 11: Happy Death Day (4/5 ⭐️)

A uniquely entertaining premise with a hilarious script. If you're able to stomach a predictable plot with an underwhelming killer reveal, you're sure to have fun. Despite being initially obnoxious, you'll find yourself warming up to main character Tree by the end.

Day 9: Psycho (4/5 ⭐️)

Of all the film's aspects, its acting has aged the best. Vera Miles and Janet Leigh are stellar leads, their characters written to be proactive
Not to mention Anthony Perkins' iconic performance as Bates. However, the script struggles with pacing throughout several scenes.
