A lens hood is also handy to shade out unwanted light sources, I also often hold up a piece of cardboard or similar to block an unwanted light source ... sometimes even the Moon.

That is where focus tracking on a superzoom camera comes in handy, My wife has a Canon SX70HS bridge camera and never misses a shot.

Haven't disassembled lens as yet for full defungus effort but what I could get to came up to serviceable with a bit of home made car windscreen washer fluid (dishwashing liquid and isopropanyl alcohol). These old lenses did not have coatings so this mix is fine.

I declare this camera FUNCTIONAL
Zeiss Ikonta 520/2 1930.

Busy on new project of restoring a 1930 Zeiss Ikonta 520/2 camera, and there isn´t much to fix apart from some internal fungus on the lens. All of the mechanicals work well and I have high hopes to use it to teach the real stuff of photography to a local lad while I learn.
Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 520/2 from 1930, looks a little mucky but only needs a lens removal and clean the fungus to make it all work. Perfect teaching platform for a local lad interested in photography/

I dare say you get a lot of clear views without light pollution from the Falklands. For me the Southern Cross and Carina Nebula are now setting in the evenings but they occupy me in the winter here in Australia.
Southern Cross upper left and the Carina region lower right with the Carina Nebula, Wishing Well Cluster and Southern Pleiades.

Shot from my backyard ... i is old and don´t get out much. Surrounded by houses and street lights here and must pull tricks like hiding behind my house or waiting for my target to fill the darkest part of the sky. The camera was left on and i only go down the steps ONCE!

Et Voila ... the Ptolemy Cluster but this is above the Scorpion's sting in pic 2 .. commited the unforgiveable sin and my battery went fat before I could get more.

Told ya I was an amytewr.

Shot on a 1980 Nikoor F/2.8 180mm lens we have the Ptolemy Cluster, just above the Scorpion's sting.

There I was thinking you were way out in front of me ... seems we is both amytures with pretty standard gear. Keep at it Sue.

Camera time for me, clear skies and my kitties are getting impatient for their astro session.

Hope I didn't step on your toes there Sue.

Hoping to get a little Nebula action under Shaula with a 40yo Nikon F/2.8 180mm on my simple Sony a6000. Can surprise at times on a dark night.
