As long as I live under the capitalistic system, I expect to have my life influenced by the demands of moneyed people. But I will be damned if I propose to be at the beck and call of every itinerant scoundrel who has two cents to invest in a postage stamp.

I think Uncommitted was a bad idea on balance but registering my disapproval of it by refusing to support a Democratic nominee seems…self-refuting
I live in a state that is world-renowned for not being Maine and a city that was profiled in Condé Nast’s “300 Cities that somehow exist but aren’t New York” issue, so my support matters very little but I support Mamdani because he’s the Dem nominee and I will support whoever Maine Dems nominate
Poking around randomly I discovered that apparently someone has created a blocklist to block people who put people on blocklists

I think there's little reason as of yet to assume that Platner is the actual popular favorite in the race. Maybe he will be. But it kind of does a disservice to the other relevant qualities of a guy like Zohran Mamdani to assume that they can stand up any bearded rando in any race and win in a walk.
This article got served up on Facebook and the comments are about 90% “who the hell was that” and, like, help me out people who are old enough to remember the early 90s — Sugar wasn’t *that* obscure of a band, right? I saw their stuff on MTV, for god’s sake!

honestly, if I were Pope I would take every opportunity to throw shade at the White Sox, fair play
Someone in the crowd: “Go Cubs!”

Pope Leo XIV: “Han perdido! They lost!”
Hi, middle school teacher here. Intimately familiar with the dumb insensitive things actual children do. Can’t recall anyone expressing a desire to gas The Jews. This might be because of all the woke indoctrination I do, not sure.
“Sir, I regret to inform you that our nationwide series of coordinated protests lacks the critical support of a crab-bucket of outer borough malcontents with self-medicated personality disorders!”

“Damn, I guess we’d better pack it in, then, what can we accomplish without them?”
They don’t want to endlessly critique, they want to endlessly critique endlessly critiquing.

After the 50th or 60th time the same basic group of people have dramatically announced (more in sorrow than in anger ofc) that they cannot in good conscience support whatever is the current left-of-center political Thang, the dramatic announcements start to lose some potency
“We have to surge hundreds of armed agents to your city to shoot tear gas at the people who will be angry and begin protesting once they find out we’ve surged hundreds of armed agents to their city to shoot tear gas at them” is an excellent reminder that I’m overdue to re-read Catch-22.
And you end up negatively polarizing yourself into believing some pretty weird shit pretty quick
The thing about arguing on the Internet is that everyone is basically conditioned to find their tribe and then immediately start throwing the wildest rhetorical haymakers possible against anyone from another tribe who comes into range. This can be a fun hobby but it’s a lousy way to find Truth
again, the problem with rhetorical maximalism (all Republicans since Barry fucking Goldwater were Nazis) is that you end up believing it and saying absolutely unhinged shit thinking it's normal
I’ve spent most of my adult life scoring pretty high by most reasonable metrics for Awkwardness, Loneliness, and Abject Unfuckability and yet the Silicon Valley answers to my plight (Rampant Misogyny/Big Tiddy Anime AI Companion/Sexting Clippy 2.0) still seem borderline insane. Maybe I’m too old.
“Carmina Burana” is in the semi-related pile of “music you thought was straight out of the Middle Ages but is actually less than 100 years old”
I haven’t spent a lot of time in Hoffman Estates so maybe this is lazy stereotyping by me but it doesn’t seem like a Woke Drum Circle kinda town just generally, let alone its cops
DHS having their stories routinely punctured by suburban Chicagoland police departments is darkly funny if you’re noddingly familiar with suburban Chicagoland police departments.
This version is confirmed, by Hoffman Estates police, puncturing the official DHS statement.

At this point, there is a statement from DHS re 🧊 activities in the Chicago area that’s refuted in similar fashion on nearly a daily basis at a minimum over the past week
Despite what some, including at DHS, are claiming, this video isn’t from a year ago in Chicago. It was Friday in Hoffman Estates, in my district, a street I’ve walked myself. It appears to show a child being violently detained by ICE. It’s real, and I’m demanding accountability.
Fun fact: this man has a degree in economics from an Ivy League university famous for its Econ department
Q: Would you support dollarization?

TRUMP: I would say that I'll leave that up to my economic people, but I like the dollar
