Every time I threatened to leave he’d remind me that no one wants a divorced mother of 3. It kept me there for years because I truly believed him. Who would want me? But therapy helped shift that mindset. Who fucking cares? I want me. I wanted better for me. Been single 4 years now. It was worth it

The conversation is definitely needed. Sunk cost fallacy and the perceived “success” of a lengthy marriage is what kept me in a toxic and abusive one for 17 years. Society values quantity over quality in that regard. And you see how Black single mothers are regarded on the internet 😪
