A refresh of my values (for anyone who cares) @bladeofthes.bsky.social got me thinking with a recent post about financial interests so a new page has been added to cover the role/stds expected in public life. As a school governor for 20 yrs and a cllr for 7 I’d like to think I meet such standards

So, let’s get this right, Birmingham authorities don’t want Maccabi fans at the game, Maccabi Tel Aviv club don’t want their fans at the game but Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch think it’s antisemetic for the fans them not to be there 🤷‍♂️ www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footba...
Maccabi Tel Aviv will not accept Aston Villa Europa League tickets

Tory rusty Iron Maiden head to head with @zackpolanski.bsky.social on ITVPeston tonight. Could be messy.
A Conservative MP tipped as a future party leader has been condemned for saying large numbers of legally settled families must be deported, in order to ensure the UK is mostly “culturally coherent”.

They gained more than 6000 members in a single day. There are now more Green members than members of the Conservative Party and their membership is more than double the reported membership of the LibDems.

Will the BBC face up to the Green Party's membership surge?

So sorry to hear this - thoughts are with you Liz. Run wild and free Gus 🌈
Next they need to divorce the price of electricity from the price of gas on the European wholesale energy market.
That is a huge plus of this platform - one can walk away from hate and 🐂💩 and stay away from it
@bphillipsonmp.bsky.social just three posts mentioning primary schools about sums it up. The sector is on its knees. I am overseeing severe budgets cuts for the first time in over 20 years. It’s not good enough. Not even close.
I have been a school governor for over 20 years. I have seen my school through 3 Ofsted inspections taking the school from “Good” in 2005 to being one of the most outstanding primary schools in England in 2011 and again in 2024. In that time we have doubled the size of the school.…
He paid for the audience/user base, not the concept of debate. This is diktat and brainwashing - the normalising of racist and fascist behaviour, the empowerment of poorly educated thugs as the unwitting tools of the rich. The clever thugs like SYL rise through the ranks and are rewarded with riches
I expect similar stories to emerge from RefUK’d Lancashire. There are already highways surface and signage repair jobs going back over 100 days since logged. They are unfulfilled. This didn’t even happen under the Tories - fulfilment was often inside a week. Certainly customers got a response.
I despair for our future. In an AI world we need future workers who know what good looks like, who can challenge AI “hallucinations” (AI getting it wrong), who can tell fact from fiction, who can assure appropriate controls are in place. Without investment in primary education NOW we are lost.
The staff have been to hell and back with Covid, we see pupils with poor social skills still coming into school and we are hanging on by a frayed thread right now. This should not be happening. That it is happening on Labour’s watch is disgraceful. It will leave a generational legacy no one wants.
If we are struggling I dread to think how inner city schools or other high deprivation areas with huge problems attracting staff and higher incidences of SEND are coping. How under performing schools can turn things around without investment? We need a major reaffirmation of our state school sector.
I ask this directly of the Secretary of State for Education - Bridget Phillipson - who is seeking to be deputy leader of the Labour Party. Why are you overseeing real term reductions in school grants? It’s not good enough. It fails our future. It scars our faith in the system.
So, why having survived the Tories 14 year decimation of public services do we now find ourselves staring down the barrel of huge financial cuts in 2026 and beyond? Under a Labour govt, a descendant of “education, education, education”, this should not be happening.
Much of our progress happened in the Blair/Brown era yet we still made positive progress under the Tories with a huge physical extension that supercharged and modernised our provision. We have resisted the academy route and continue to do so.
Applications for Early Years places exceed over 100 for just 60 places. We have gone from being virtually skint in 2005 to being financially sound by 2010 and since; we are an Apple School and renowned for our SEND provision. School is a happy place for both staff and pupils

And that is being polite about him.
…although every penny helps. It’s about equality and the financial sustainability of nation states. Wealth is increasing for the super rich in an exponential way - the more they have the more they accumulate.
Check out Gary Stevenson @garyseconomics on IG. He is a very rich city boy advocating wealth taxes that necessitates will bring in up to £32bn - very much focussed on taxing assets, especially property. The individual can leave the country - their fixed assets cannot. It’s not about raising cash…
