I haven’t taught myself a new skill in a while so I spent a good chunk of this past holiday Monday learning some of the basics of embroidery. I do love using threads and yarns (hello 1990’s cross stitch!) and so I think this skill will be a keeper! 🧵🪡

Giving thanks in the midst of hardship can be one of the hardest things, and also one of the most helpful things, too. It reminds us of the good things in our lives, those things that are wrapped around glimmers of joy that abide deep inside. Joy is ours to keep. Gratefulness is how we access it ✨

Happy #KidLitArtPostcard Day! I wanted to take my Unhaunters into a non-terrifying urban monster experience for fall & was inspired by a laneway walk.

I'm an experienced cartoonist, illustrator & educator seeking representation for my graphic novels, middle grade, beginning reader & picture books.

Leaves start to turn yellow, orange and red in a long laneway lined with weeds and ivy growing among fences and garage doors, with a canopy from backyard trees. Coming from the ivy is a plant creature with a sunflower-like face, who smiles as they use multiple tendril arms to sprawl out chalk drawings on the pavement of a simple green dragon with yellow fire breath and a blue wizard. A purple haired goth kid joins in, making a pink googly-eyed bat. Another kid with a blue lollipop looks on from the extreme foreground. The bright sun casts purple leafy patterns over much of the alley, suggesting it's mid afternoon or mid-morning.

One of the sites we stayed in on this trip was beside a swiftly flowing river with an old wooden bridge The slats were far apart, water rushed over rocks beneath it, the sun-bleached wood bounced as we walked. On the other side I found the most magical thing: the sparkly new beginnings of a story ✨
