Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed. After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

Literally trying to insinuate that No Kings is astroturfed on a presidency built on the foundations of the actual astroturfed Tea Party and Q-Anon movements.

Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

As someone who's been a massive One Piece fan, just...man.

Like, I'm pretty sure the protest movements around the world have a better reading of the themes of One Piece than this jackhole does.

Most people don't even think it's a matter of 'every year' either and just turn on every four years.

The way folks talk of the 'Democratic Establishment' as it's some Illuminati-level cabal to both spite and persecute poor people as well as secretly exalt Republicans. They really have to bend over backwards to find ways to make Dems to blame for even Republican sins.

It's amazing how many folks seem to think this case should've been a slam dunk express case, as if a trial aimed at a former president, for actions done as president, in a country where we've expressly avoided trying such cases, should have been done faster than even your average civil trial.

But again, if all it ends up boiling down to is pure untethered raw exercises of power, then we really have no democracy or republic to save. We just have feuding warlords and fiefdoms. There's a reason 'we had to destroy the town to save it' is now shorthand for this exact line of thinking.

They didn't "waste" two years. They spent those two years in court fighting to get access to the records that they needed to make their case in criminal court.

They started in January 2021 when they subpoenaed phone records from Trump's cabinet.

And it took until mid 2022 to exhaust the appeals.

A lot of the responses to this support the theory that a lot of people purportedly on "the left" are perfectly fine with having a dictator as long as it's a dictator whose policies THEY like.

DANIELS: Should the next Democratic president be a little bit more involved with the DOJ than Democrats have been in the past?

KAMALA HARRIS: No president should think of the DOJ as being their personal attorney

During the campaign she was criticized for focusing so heavily on preventing fascism instead of on "kitchen table issues."

Now that Dems are literally focusing on kitchen table issues (ie, healthcare/inflation etc), they're being criticized for "not focusing on preventing fascism."

In Chicago, four vehicles descended and eight ICE agents moved in to kidnap a child.

She screams, “I’m 15,” as ICE yanks her from the car and kneels on her neck.

This is not about immigration enforcement.

It's about terrorizing Americans.

"Oh, but if we just 'voted harder', it would have worked, right?!"

Yes, yes it would have. That's literally how democracy f***ing works, and the reason the GOP is even in the position to subvert democracy the way they are is because they voted harder when lefter-than-thous refused and abstained.

At least Whitmer genuinely own goaled by prostrating herself to Trump the way she did, and for zero gain, professional or political, no less.

"One Weird Trick" theory of politics truly is one of the most toxic possible trends to hit the left.

Assuming the hostages are actually released and Israel does pull out of Gaza, perhaps another positive outcome will be that people will get it through their heads that MOST OF US JEWS ACTUALLY CAN’T STAND NETANYAHU.

Like, I feel like many of the things folks attribute to malice or complicity are simply investigative leads that simply didn't pan out for the larger umbrella case, which is something that...just happens sometimes? And folks are making judgments with the benefit of hindsight.

The dirty secret of "liberal media" is that they allow everyone to speak for liberals except actual liberals.
