Cuomo’s desperate final act is bankrolled by the very billionaires who brought us Donald Trump and the broken status quo.

BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

Again, whatever adviser decided to go away from “Weird!” last fall should be banished to doing nothing more than city council elections in Sausalito for the rest of their career.

Newsom: This president appears unhinged… seems listless… he seems, dare I say, in decline—cognitively, and… physically. These are just the rantings of someone who needs an intervention, needs some help, needs to be stabilized.
It was easy to do given that it was free and I can always re-register (but probably won't).
I joined a political party for the first time in my life to help him win in a bid to make sure Poilievre was defeated and I was surprised how quickly after the election I emailed the party to cancel my membership.

I think we actually agree almost entirely on the policy question. All I'm trying to say is that I'm pretty confident that if this government were to lead us in that direction, in this moment in history, we might find that the destination at the end of that journey is a Polievre majority government.
Anyway, as I say, my main idea here is just that if the government is going to choose to take the 40% side of a 60:40 issue they can probably find MUCH less electorally dangerous examples to roll the dice on than, "bail reform is unnecessary and the sentences of violent criminals are long enough".
So will the notion that what voters repeatedly say they want their government to do is nothing but "vibes" or that voters wouldn't want those things if they were just a little smarter, or just a little better informed.
Mostly though, I just question the political wisdom of campaigning AGAINST, rather than in favour of, tougher bail restrictions and longer criminal sentences in 2025, in a country where the majority of voters are in favor of both policies and a majority of voters still support the death penalty.
Again though, your contention that these policies won't work is based on an assumption that the goal of these policies is to reduce crime, whereas to most Canadians, the goals of these policies are to make it harder for repeat offenders to get bail & make the sentences of convicted criminals longer.
Also I think you might be mistaken in assuming the goal the public has in mind when calling for these policies is "reduced crime".

I think people want bail to be harder to get because they think bail should be harder to get and for sentences to be longer because they think sentences are too short.
Like, I despise Doug Ford but there's arguably a reason the Prime Minister is following the, "tell the people you'll do what polls say the people want you to do" lead of a Premier who's currently leading his third majority government while surrounded by the ashes of the two main opposition parties.
This is all well and good but the fact remains that Canadians are sick of repeat offenders commitng additional crimes while out on bail or serving house arrest sentences in the same neighborhood as their victims which is why these policies are extremely popular and the Supreme Court is not.
