Angela Rayner's legacy will be bigger than anybody in the media who has been after her head since day one. Against all odds she has helped bring about a huge uplift to workers' and renters' rights. Meanwhile, journalists spend their days snipping women. Thank you for everything you've done, Angela.

I controversially think that, now is the right time to begin talking about it. Many argue that it is too late, but I think focusing on the new EU deal beforehand was a sensible move.

So, the Government really have done a poor job of explaining the new English language requirements. The new rules will not apply to all workers, and they are not required to complete an A-Level English Language qualification, as claimed.

My thanks to @danielrooney.bsky.social who explains that B2 is equivalent to a good A level grade in a modern "foreign language" hence the A level reference.

But most people won't require that score it's just for people like doctors and church ministers

The new rules are clarified by Otto here, for those who don't want to read what has actually been said. The rules are not out of step with other EU countries. However, a whole different conversation is needed to explain why they require a higher English standard than many native speakers have.

All of this is being put out to placate the right wing press...

In the meantime, it's causing fear & confusion. As I understand it:

● this only applies to some people on skilled visas
● it's not "A level English" it's something called SELT
● much the same requirement exists elsewhere in EU

I was awoken at an ungodly hour last night because my headphones decided to auto connect to my mobile phone and start playing Bruckner Symphony No 4 so loudly I could hear it from across the room. I'm not even joking.

I think the only way to get disabled people into work if they can is to give them incentives to hire them, and require a minimum number of employees with disabilities.

Instagram, I may be mistaken, but I am pretty sure they have been posted on YouTube also.

Just seen another "Darren Explains" video from the Number 10 Downing Street social media account. If I am not mistaken, so far, one video has been released per week over the past three weeks, each focusing on a different policy. Labour's comms aren't brilliant, but I am noticing improvements.

Good. This is what should have happened to begin with. Not consulting disabled people on the previous proposed changes was a mistake, and I am glad they are trying to do the right thing this time around.

I am guessing this is good, then?

He has delivered over eighteen manifesto pledges so far. So...

For many disabled people, employment is not actually a skills issue, but an access issue. I wish more people would realise this. I appreciate that there are disabled people who need skills support to help them get a job, but I have a Degree. I already have the skills I need for, roles that I want.

I don't like McSweeney, but in terms of delivering stuff, Starmer is actually very good.

Need a second series, now.

Riot Women is brilliant. Sally Wainwright never misses.

"Kurt Cobain was the true writer of Live Through This" has to be one of the most idiotic and misogynistic conspiracy theories I've ever heard. God forbid a woman write a great record. Also, have those who believe it, actually listened to the album? I can only conclude that they haven't.

I think I blocked them them a while ago, after they said that Angela Rayner house gate was a plot by Morgan McSweeney to get rid of her. I'm no McSweeney fan, but this person does love silly conspiracies.
