I see it now. When she uses the term “ birthright” I took it to mean immigrant children born in the affluent country due to the context of our conversation.

I agree with you that Israel is stolen land and human rights abuses by Israel have been going on long before Hamas entered the picture. I’ve long felt that if any other country was doing what Israel does the global reaction would not be charitable.

Question: isn’t that what foreign aid does?
Is the levy an extra tax on the birthright citizen?
I don’t think I agree with this.
My concern about birthright citizenship is not that citizenship is conferred on someone simply because they’re born here.
My concern is for the parents.

Hm, I would like to clarify: the author of the book is proposing a levy on birthright citizens if they were fortunate enough to be born in an affluent country.
The levy would be proportional to the individual’s income.
This levy would be sent to less affluent nations as a way to “give back”(?).

I think it is possible to have level-headed, educated discussions on this platform. I’m not fond of knee-jerk reactions and name-calling. If a comment isn’t as articulate as it could be, ask for clarity. If your go-to reaction is to cast aspersions I’m just going to block. It’s infantile but 🤷‍♀️.

That’s what I’ve tried to tell right-wing members of my family. I don’t want to go into detail but I’ve pointed out the dog whistle rhetoric, the lies and all the rest of it. I come from a multi-racial family so when some lean right it makes no sense to me. I’m considered alarmist or just shut down.

I would love that. I had this conversation earlier— related to hate speech and Charter rights. It’s shocking to me that these people still exist, given the lessons from history and the horrific actions of the past. People are full of poisonous ideas. I can’t understand it.
