With deep sorrow and abiding gratitude we mourn the passing of Pope Francis, who returned to the Father’s embrace this morning. A Suffering Servant for our time, a pastor of mercy and hope whose courage opened our eyes to the virtue of building bridges, a prophet of justice,...
... This is the greatest and the first commandment.
The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:36–40
“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”
He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.... 5/6
John 13:34
“I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.”

John 15:12
“This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.” 4/6
We might add that as people of faith we are called to love those with disabilities as well, as we are to love one another. We are one with them and stand in solidarity with them.

We know you know this, but we love to remind ourselves: 3/6
Can all people of faith agree that to treat our sisters and brothers with disabilities with respect is foundational to human decency in our time. It always has been. 2/6
FOR BLUESKY

FROM THE UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS (USCCB) ON OCT. 26, 2025:

God's individual, real, unchanging love is the source of our dignity. Today's #RespectLifeMonth Novena prayers: ow.ly/1tBP50Xf2Ng 1/6

... Doing so not only unites all of us through these virtues and in bringing us closer to God but also puts us in a position to best act for the fulfillment of God’s will on our common home. Mt 6:10

As people of faith, when we enter the political realm, let us be mindful that we best serve the common good – perhaps can only serve it – when we work with humility and mercy, bound together in love.... 8/9
... although the Lord hears each of our prayers, those of the righteous (meaning aligned with God) are more powerful than those who are not, e.g. 1 Peter 3:12 7/9
Furthermore, and this is difficult to accept, as Fr. Terence Klein writing for @americamag (seehttps://www.americamagazine.org/good-word/2025/10/22/homily-pharisee-tax-collector-prayers-righteous/) reminded us in his homily for today entitled, “Does God play favorites in prayer?”:... 6/9
We suggest that a social and political order devoid of humility is one that is devoid of mercy.

And yet mercy is what we ask from God every day, without condition. “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” (Mt 6:12) 5/9
Most of us have condemned our political adversaries in the name of righteousness falling into the trap – often w/out thinking about it – of acting as if our intended moral ends justify our means. We easily excuse ourselves from the humility the tax collector embodied in his encounter with Jesus. 4/9
Sisters and Brothers,

Today’s Gospel spoke to us through the social and political realities of our time. 3/9
I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

FROM VATICAN NEWS – THE GOSPEL READING OF THE DAY -

Gospel of the Day (Luke 18,9-14) "The tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, 'O God, be merciful to me a sinner.'... 1/9
Prayer opens our hearts to God, nurtures our faith, & draws us closer to one another — even to those with whom we may disagree.

When society turns it s back on a mother or her child it is an act of omission that stirs the Lord’s wrath.

Mindful that prayer is a bridge, not a wall, let us pray for pregnant and parenting moms and for the life-affirming help they need – and deserve. We invite all to join us. 4/5
Recently #PopeLeo praised the notion of a “healthy secularism” but within the context of Gospel values. We have long advanced a belief in our Gospel responsibility to support women through their sacred journey of motherhood. 3/5
Yes, the Christian community should be a source of life-affirming help for pregnant and parenting moms. But so too should our society through non-profits and the government.

Sec. @HillaryClinton famously said that “It takes a village.” And it does. 2/5
FROM THE UNITED STATES CONFERENCE OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS (USCCB) ON OCT. 25, 2025:
In today's #RespectLifeMonth Novena reflection we look at how the example of our Blessed Mother invites us to become more aware of the needs of pregnant and parenting moms. Today's prayers: ow.ly/EXax50Xf2Hq

Together, we make the unity inherent in our choice to love one another stronger than the division seeking to starve us.

Jesus taught us what to do.

🍞 May we come together — across faiths, communities, and beliefs — to ensure that no one, especially children, goes without food.

Donate to your local food bank and please share this message to raise awareness.
As the government shutdown disrupts benefits, food banks are already feeling the strain — and families, especially those with young children, are at risk of going hungry.
PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO A FOOD PANTRY

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.” — Matthew 25:35

Across our nation, more than 41 million people, including 15 million children, depend on SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) for daily meals.
Prayer opens our hearts to God, nurtures our faith, & draws us closer to one another — even to those with whom we may disagree.
