People who cycle are often accused of cycling "in the middle of the road".

What they really mean of course is cycling in the middle of the lane, and there are lots of good reasons why people do this, explained succinctly in this @davewalker.bsky.social cartoon for @cyclinguk.bsky.social

Cartoon entitled "Road Positioning" and subtitled "Times when it might be safer to cycle in the middle of the lane". There are four illustrated examples

1. Approaching road narrowings where it would be unsafe for drivers to overtake e.g. traffic islands etc

2. In slower-moving traffic. Keeps you visible. You can move over to the left again if the traffic speeds up.

3. Where there are parked cars and a car door might be opened.

4. On quiet roads. Keeps you away from various hazards found in the gutter.

Finn is a silly goose who sometimes gets over excited but damn doesn't this little dude come in clutch during rough therapy sessions. He did an excellent job of helping to ground me during a very stressful EMDR session.

Yesterday we installed a 4th ghost bike for Gerardo Marciales. Each bike has been crashed into *multiple* times. Statistically, it’s just a matter of time before another person is killed at this location.

•decreased stress levels
