UN report: Palestinian detainees held arbitrarily and secretly, subjected to torture and mistreatment

GENEVA - The UN Human Rights Office today published a report on arbitrary, prolonged and incommunicado detention by Israeli authorities, affecting thousands of Palestinians since last October.

Yesterday, many Palestinians (some children under the age of 18) who had been held without charge & denied their basic rights by the Israeli government were finally released

But thousands more remain in arbitrary detention under appalling conditions and must not be forgotten

News of the ‘first phase’ of a ceasefire in Gaza is a moment of real hope. This must be the first step of many, including release of all hostages, full humanitarian access to Gaza, and self-determination for Palestinians.

The era of oil & gas is over - reserves are running dry and companies are pulling out leaving workers and communities high and dry

Government urgently needs to make a plan to harness those skills for the green energy transition

If the Tories want to scrap the Climate Change Act, then it's both fiscally and morally irresponsible not to put at least some money into dealing with the effects of the crisis - from flooding to extreme heat - and protecting the vulnerable for example in schools and care homes.

It's a miracle nobody was hurt. Sending solidarity to the Muslim community in Sussex and across the UK, as well as the Jewish community who are still grieving from the appalling attack in Manchester. No one should EVER feel unsafe in their place of worship

NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.
