Your leader threats the independent existence of my country & you’re upset because I choose to not to support products from a country that threats us?! You don’t understand disproportionate! How clueless & entitled! My money supports the #Canadian economy!

The USians who believe this BS are MAGA & aren’t welcome here anyway so good riddance to them. Friendly respectful USians are welcome to visit Canada.

It's been a national holiday in Canada for a long time (even though the date moved around). IMHO some of it has do with the fact that land here can be harsh & unforgiving. (1/3 of Canada is the Canadian Shield- precambrian rock) & the % of arable land where most Canadians live is quite small.

The other symbol is children's shoes. At ceremonies, people add to the growing pile of shoes representing the children. (They are donated afterward). Here's DeeDee Austin's "Buried Truth". It's a very powerful song inspired by her grandmother's experiencehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xx-XHeTuQM

when they carried a memorial cloth over 50 metres long with the names of some of the children who didn't come home on it while a young Mi'kmaq singer/songwriter named DeeDee Austin sang "Buried Truth". It brought many in the audience to tears (and some of watching at home).

It’s been 5 years since Truth & Reconciliation Day has been a holiday in Canada. It’s become a big day in many schools (I’m a retired teacher) with assemblies and kids wearing orange shirts. Orange shirts have become a symbol for it as one of the survivors told the commission the 1st thing (cont)

In Canada it’s a harvest holiday & a day to spend with your family & "give thanks" for family & other good things in your life. Turkey is served because it’s a large native bird (along with native cranberries). The turkey thing is a silly recent American tradition, our prime minister doesn’t do that

Did you know the first thanksgiving celebrated by Europeans in North America happened in Canada?
Or that the Indigenous celebrated autumn harvests long before Europeans arrived?
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier than the United States?
This is the story.

🧵1/10
A festive Thanksgiving dinner table featuring a roasted turkey as the centerpiece, surrounded by an array of dishes including green beans, stuffing, sliced ham, and a pumpkin pie. The table is decorated with pumpkins, sunflowers, candles, and autumnal flowers, with wine glasses and plates set for a meal.

Canadian thanksgiving is always the 2nd Monday of October. We are not American so our prime minister is speaking to Canadians about OUR thanksgiving.

He tried several pens including a Lamy left hand nib (which has more surface area for lefties) but couldn’t get any of them to produce anything. As an underwriter, I use a left handed fountain pen calligraphy set from Cult Pens for italic lettering and a standard pointed dip pen for sampling ink.
canililac.bsky.social
That’s why. Left handed underwriters have the easiest time with fountain pens but they aren’t all left handed people. I switched from side writing to underwriting about age 8 but changing hand position as you get older can be difficult. My DH, an overwriter has been unable to change at age 70.

2/2 My DH is an lefty overwriter. (His hand is above the writing, wrist curled.) He can’t use fountain pens because the nib won’t work with the position/angle he holds the pen. Fountain pens work very well for me too but IMHO it’s because I’m a left handed underwriter.
canililac.bsky.social
1/2 It depends on your hand position - the type of leftie you are. Smearing is an issue for side writers where their hand passes over the writing. Underwriters (hand below the writing) don’t have this issue. (I was a side writer as a child switched to underwriting after failing printing gr 1-3.

Really educational post on fascism today & how it presents in today's #politics from Charlie Angus.

Time to drop some f bombs and talk about the face of gangster fascism.
Gone are the grey uniforms and goose-steps in are the baseball caps and botox.
But the fascist playbook is redefining politics. We need to call it out.
This is my latest.

Their mainstream media won't even report that the 51st state crap was the 1st reason for our boycott. I saw 1 US businessperson in Minnesota who recently was interviewed about the loss of business from Canadians said that the local TV station edited out her negative comments about the 51st state.

Although Le Blanc was saying progress has been made (and Trump understands the complexity of the relationship a bit better), no specific details today about progress. Not encouraging.
