Chicago is doing such a great job defending against Trump 👏🏾 I'm very impressed but not surprised, they are a great city! I love that Portland is fighting back in our own unique way and I'm grateful for everyone out there putting themselves between ICE and our communities to protect our neighbors 🫶🏾

After my grandpa got his citizenship in 1986 he never missed a vote. That man would fly back from Guatemala in time to vote and would plan his trips around it.

My grandpa came from Guatemala in 1970 chasing the American dream. Today I spoke on Telemundo & Univision as a Portland City Councilor, fighting to protect that dream for our immigrant neighbors. I wish he was here to see the seeds he planted grow, but I know he’s proud. 🥲😭 Miss you, viejito. 🇬🇹💖

Being in community is what helps me heal from the daily wave of hate and negativity in my inbox and from media scrutiny that’s almost comical in its bias against progressives. Hearing my neighbors say they feel seen and represented tonight at the town hall reminds me why I do this work. 💜
