HONESTLY just walking around the pier and popping into whatever hole in the wall joint there is when you get hungry sounds like a fun time!! I did that in Buck Nowhere, Japan and it was great. I hope you have fun!! where else are you headed in JPN?

the "stir macaroni in it and/or throw some cheese on top" works for a variety of soups including clear broths and tomato-based ones :3 It's quite versatile. I think the pie crust on top works best for creamy soups.

I think a cheaper alternative to this recipe would be to stir in canned tuna instead of Salmon, and if you wanna go even cheaper, sub the kabocha for sweet potato and/or regular potato. It'll be an entirely different recipe, though... Yeto's Soup (recession ver.)

I've eaten this for 3 meals (it's very filling) and I'm getting tired of it already so I'm doing the thing where you throw a pie crust on it and bake it in the oven. Yeto pot pie?
Another alternative is to put some cooked maraconi in it, and broil some cheese on top: Yeto gratin.
