Heads up, Film Fans! A new series of #ClassicMovies starts tonight at 7.00pm on #SkyArts with the usual gang discussing Hitchcock’s drop dead masterpiece, #TheThirtyNineSteps. Author John Buchan thought it was better than his novel. #DiscoveringDianeKeaton follows at 8.00pm.

I too do not care for the man or his silly ways.

I pretty much cornered the market in mediocre acid. Rather than hallucinate, one merely felt jolly, nostalgic and shallow. That‘s how I invented Britpop.

Fabulous, fact-packed look at one of Hitchcock’s masterworks. Now I know where ‘This is where I came in…’ comes from. Should have known, really.

Anyone who answers ‘yes’ to this idiot question can go piss into their own soup.

I used to think that Struzan was second only to Saul Bass when it came to film posters but his work is so inextricably linked with a very long run of iconic films that are lodged deep in the psyche of Gen Xers that this usurps any claim of superior design

Drew Struzan, Iconic Movie Poster Artist and Favorite of Spielberg and Lucas, Dies at 78
He created some of the most memorable movie posters of all-time in his own signature style as Steven Spielberg and Guillermo del Toro pay tribute.

There were the posters, then the movies, and then the posters took over. They became the album sleeves that you’d slide the movies into for safe keeping. I loved him.

Struzan was responsible for so much of the yearning and fevered expectation of my young years, a time made magical by his art. He was utterly extraordinary.

RIP to inspirational movie poster legend, Drew Struzan. Everything he put his pen to ended up being some canonical representation of a movie we now love. Often, the posters are more famous than the movies themselves. Poster auteurism!

We love these unused Struzan designs for Back to the Future.

‘The Washington Post critic wouldn’t know graceful verse if it but his nose off.‘ Hahaha! Quite lovely to hear that despite the frailty, his voice even at that stage was ox-strong.

Will luxuriate in this later. Thanks for sending it old stick.

Blood on Satan’s Claw would make a great double bill with The Wicker Man.

A familiar face on Welsh television, Mici Plwm (pronounced Mickey Plum) was as an extra in The Prisoner. Plwm is known to a whole generation of Welsh children as the hapless Plwmsam in the Anturiaethau (Adventures of) Syr Wynff a Plwmsan (1980-89) #checkmate #theprisoner #s4c

Oh what a joyous film. A sweet, beautifully crafted antidote to all that ails you. I hope they rain BAFTAs upon it.

‘They say a madman has the strength of ten…’

I think of him every time I see anyone drinking a half of Guinness. A lovely actor.

So good to see Demme getting some serious appreciation. His career has a fascinating arc and it’’s scattered with some priceless jewels. Also quietly impressed that David M Stewart knows who Bucks Fizz are.
