Another thing (and so they should consider leaving me alone) is that this “we need to forgive people for what they said in the past to grow the party” owes a significant discursive debt to the MeToo backlash that has unilaterally sold the idea that “woke feminism” went too far.

We’re going to have to get used to this. 2026 and 2028 are likely to look very similar.

No matter what side of the aisle you’re on, attempts to prevent US citizens from voting should be a red line for you.

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

To a large extent, @teenvogue.com's Politics section was doing the only dedicated progressive reporting on American higher education. While higher ed issues sometimes receive coverage in places like The Nation & The American Prospect, Teen Vogue treated campuses like a dedicated beat.

We should be cautious in interpreting claims filings right now, several hundred thousand people have been fired from the federal govt but most will be ineligible for UI because layoffs were either structured as voluntary deferred resignations (Fork in the Road) or for cause (provisional workers)

Climate Desk Newsletter STORIES FROM MOTHER JONES AND ITS PARTNERS As a former Mother Jones fellow turned senior climate reporter and extreme-weather correspondent for the Guardian, I’ve grown accustomed to being the bearer of bad news. But amid the endless cycle of missed emissions targets, compounding disasters, and attempts to gut climate protections, inspiring stories occasionally pop up to remind us there are still solutions—and people willing to fight for them. That’s how I got to bear witness to the rebirth of the Klamath River. After the last of four major hydroelectric dams was removed late last year—the largest such project in US history—the mighty waterway that straddles the Oregon–California border, a river at the heart of Indigenous culture, has undergone a recovery that has astounded scientists and casual observers alike. Wildlife (bald eagles, beavers, bears, salmon, etc.) is rebounding, along with, as I write in the piece, the “insects, algae, and microscopic features of the flourishing systems that feed this ecosystem.” One year into this grand experiment, we’ve also gotten to see how the Indigenous leaders who spearheaded the work are ensuring the story doesn’t end there.
