This incident is one of the main reasons we have strict building codes & inspections now, plus separations of zoning for industrial, business, & residential areas. The Great Molasses Flood changed a lot about how cities are designed, built, & laid out. Still makes me sad how many ppl died in it

A corner of my porch which has a wrought iron cafe table and 2 chairs in a rose motif, for Portland, the rose city. A terra cotta glazed jack-o-lantern adorns the table, next to some pumpkin-shaped candles and a large black ceramic candle holder. Portland is beautiful in the fall. I love the rain. It's peaceful and cozy here

Bath day for Tarzan. Including a short Epsom soak for his old bones. Jane is helping him dry off. The cats have a pet safe heating pad to keep him warm as he dries out. Poor guy. He hates baths so much but he’s a champ at them

My cats Jane The Magnificent and Tarzan the Maine Coon, hanging out in a window seat area which has red & sheer gold curtains arranged & draped over them. Tarzan is laying down and wet, wrapped in a towel purrito style, having just endured a bath and a soak. Jane is sitting by him and leaning over him, grooming his face. The cats are very bonded & both are old kitties. Tarzan is a 16 year old Maine Coon grey & white tuxedo superfloof and Jane is a silvery grey tortoiseshell tabby who’s over 17 now. Tarzan has recently had some health issues so he’s pretty skinny since he lost a lot of weight recently. He’s doing a little better and has gained some back but it’s rough seeing him decline. They are such great sweethearts.

The same scene of my cats in the window boudoir and Tarzan is still wrapped in the purrito towel but Jane has moved over the the chaise right next to the window seat. Tarzan is giving me the stink eye for having to suffer the indignity of a bath but he gets bucketloads of treats for his troubles and he’ll be fine in a short while. I typically let him have a break for an hour of so to drip dry and then he gets the blow dryer on low & a comb out to dry his long fur so it doesn’t mat. He gets lots of treats for that part too. Once he’s all done and dry his fur is shiny and silky soft. It’s a grueling process for an old kitty but especially as he ages he needs help to stay clean & he feels a lot better afterward. He was acclimatized to weekly baths at his foster place and they did a fantastic job of making him tolerate bath time as well as possible. He’s vocal about not liking baths but he also doesn’t struggle or claw much. I’m grateful to them every time I have to bathe him and maintain his coat. Cats with long fur like this can have pain from matted fur or infections from dirt trapped by the skin. It’s good to keep them clean & combed just like we are. He gets a bath anywhere from once a week to once a month depending on what time of year and how much he gets dirty. It’s harder for him to groom himself these days so I’ve been stepping up our schedule to help him out. He’s a champ. Jane’s coat requires little but she gets baths once in awhile too. Clean happy cats are awesome.

It’s harder for me to do as I get older too but they’re worth it. My cats are both such great little kitties
