dude there was this regular at my store ages ago who would come in 4+ days a week on lunch break from his construction job, take the left-handed telecaster off the wall, and rip through note for note play-throughs of dream theater songs. he pronounced it "John Pahtroochie."

Real book enjoyers know that reading books and having books are separate pursuits and that far from tragedy, a pristine unread book is a battery, a drawn bow creaking for release.

Sort of an uncanny valley where I'm close enough to agreement that the wrong parts are glaring. You can read with abandon and accept and love the wear on the book and still take care of it. If the spine cracks on your 20th read, that's a badge of honor; on the first read it's stolen valor.

Happy news! I got in contact with someone who had digital versions of the newsletter of Kay Woollard's smial which ran from 84 to 87, which gave me access to some more of her art.

She did a series of comic strips about a hobbit child called Wilmot who has a catch phrase "I'VE THUNK"
