honestly, to a degree i kind of prefer the alternate ending to final destination 4. sure it's kind of hacky and feels abrupt, but it's certainly a lot more fresh and unique compared to how the final film basically just does the ending of 3 again

really great thread. Literacy is absolutely the correct frame. Say someone picks up an STG, bounces off it, says "I'm bad at them" within minutes of playing one for the first time; if someone did this with Joyce or Faulkner or whatever you'd encourage them to build that literacy muscle over time

Thinking about Difficulty more because I was popping off about it on stream tonight, but I keep going back and thinking to how people give like.. intro reading/watching/listening lists for subjects that are dense and hard to get into, so people can build literacy in various mediums and genres.

it rarely (if ever) addresses the actual problem which is that I need something other than color to differentiate things. i know my eyes suck at picking out colors, so it's the absolute last thing i look for when i'm trying to read info quickly. adding little shapes or something is always better

i have been so trained to just never even try the colorblind options in games because they have only been helpful like Once. 99% of the time it doesn't really do shit and makes the game look weird the whole time without me knowing lmao

I also have advice. Everybody loves reading advice on the computer, so I'll share it: the best thing you can do right now is log off as hard as you can. Go outside, talk to people in real life where it's actually kind of rude to talk about the news, try to actually see the friends you usually just text message. Go for a long drive and turn the phone off while you do it. Get back into your hobbies or pick one and learn it for a while. Watch one of those studio movies that reviews called "wildly miscalculated" and you haven't seen since high school. Play an album you like but find embarrassing. Go to free community events even if they sound stupid. If you take the freeway, try the surface streets. Go to a bad diner and just order some bad coffee because even bad coffee is good coffee.
You can't help anybody when you're exhausted and keep posting one million college-educated rewordings of "I would love to be dead right now" on the computer. Walk away from the thing and try out some of those normal things you hear about and if you get bored that's wonderful because we're not supposed to get bored anymore. It turns out boredom is the Cadillac of feelings.
